It looks as if I am not the only one who has been screwed by LG. My burner just stopped functioning one day, like some of the other people on the this message board. I have downloaded the obscure driver from driverguide only to find out it functions only with Win 98 and to make it compatible you must be an advanced programer. The read me files for the driver are complicated to say the least. Has anyone with Win 2000 had any success in finding a driver that functions with this OS?
Any Help would be appreciated before I smash this cruddy Burner

My second message reqquesting aid finding a driver to allow my cd-rw to read and write once again. I have an internal Roxio 5.10 drive on a Gateway computer using Win XP which can play audio, view photos, but recently will not write backup data. Any help would be appreciated.

I belive i had a virus on my computer, so i got all Data completly erased. I had purchased many programs ( a C-D Burner being one of them) and dont know how to re-install them, as i dont have the disks to install them. Any help would be appreciated as to know how to find the correct CD Burner software.

My burner is rated 4-8-16-32, being that the first 3 numbers are the write speed and the last being read. Since I got the drive with my computer, I have not been able to burn at 16x on any media without underrun errors. I *have* to bump it down to 8x. How can I find the firmware version on this model, and can I flash it to update it, and will this help at all?

At first I burned a file with XP using direct write system to a folder, later the file wasn't in the CD. mmmmmm?? I discovered that XP don't work using the CD writer for that operation...
and... SURPRISE the CD.RW wasn't present in MY PC.. BILLy BILLy. we need a Gate ...

All you guys asking why your drive won't read disks that "aren't finalized" I have a suggestion for you: Make sure that you have re-installed DirectCD from Adaptec/Roxio. Unfinalized cds cannot be read without that program loaded in your system tray, and I do not believe that it has anything to do with missing/bad/incorrect drivers. Try this FIRST

Hi all. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional and I have the same problem with my HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B CD burner. What I have discovered is that I cannot burn CD-R's... it locks up my computer every time I try... BUT, I can burn on CD-RW's. I don't know what the difference is but the RW's are the only thing that work. It's a pain in the butt because CD-RW's aren't sold in bulk in a lot of places... but it seems to be the only way, short of going out and buying a new CD burner.

Hi.
I have the same drive HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B and the LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B DVD-RW And when I installed the dvd writer / rewriter [and this drive writes on all the types of dvd's and cdr-rw it has a firmware update program called LG ODD Auto firmware update, it has the latest dvd version DL13, AND 2.01 for the cd writer.
I have it on windows XP and have been using the Ms software for cd writing, never had any problems with buffer underuns.
as I have 2 burners on the same ide chanel one master and one slave when I want to use one burner or the other just go to my computer and when you see the drive you want to use click properties and click the recording tab there you will see the parameters of the drive click the checkbox on ENABLE CD WRITING ON THIS DRIVE, select the HD that has a min of 1 gig of free space for the image that it writes before burning, select the speed that you want to use, I set it to fastest
and select the automatically eject the cd after writing.
Have good memory over 256mb and "space" on your hard drive for use when burning.

go to this site and click product support, and devide driver, I found the CGE-8160B on the 5th page at the top the latest firmware etc this is only for LG drives not sony or others, If needed you can call LG and ask about your drive at 1-800-243-0000 for the lg customer support.
I hope this helps you all, as LG is one of the better brands and it's a shame that Mr Gates tries to mess things up for everyone but windblows.

I have a Gateway Essential 700PC with Windows 98SE which was upgraded to 384MB Ram and to a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card. I installed a new HL-DT-ST GCE-8160B CD/RW burner (It didn't come with any installation software)that I bought through Ebay about 2-3 weeks ago and I still have not been able to get this CD/RW drive to burn any CD's and even just playing CD's with this burner on my PC is precarious at best. I can play CD's with this burner only by using the "Creative Media Source Player" that came with my sound card and not by using "Real Player" which would be the normal vehicle of playing CD's with my PC. Real Player would always be the default source (unless I chose otherwise) for playing CD's with this burner along with my DVD player. If I tried playing CD's with this burner through Real Player,it would go through the motion of playing CD's using "Real Player" but the sound would always be missing despite futile attempts to find out why. I called LG electronics for help and LG said that I already have the driver for this CD/RW burner installed since the CD burner is listed in the "CD Rom" of Device Manager under System in the Control Panel. Maybe it would solve the problem if I bought the Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 but I'm not going to find out. I recently ordered a used Phillips CDD4801/81 CD Burner (the original burner that came with my PC) through Foxtec.com. The Phillips CDD4801/81 CD burner has 8x4x32 listings.

Will this cd-rom device burn "dvd"s? I can't seem to get it to write to a dvd-r, or dvd-rw. It writes to all CD-ROMs that I use, but my home dvd player connnected to mt TV will not recognize my cd-rom slide shows I make. So will it burn Dvds with NERO or MOTV software?

I have a cd burner HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4522B. it stopped burning for a while though it could read cds that had some information in them, then it worked again but now I get a message saying it cant perform fixation. What can I do?

My burner will play cds but it won't burn them.
I think some how the program got deleted and I don't know how to get it back. Before all I would have to do is put in a cd and a screen would pop up and ask what kind I wanted to make (data, music, or DVD).
I'm lost!

Using an older Gateway desktop model, Performance 1400, upgraded to XP several years ago and suddenly my CD drive won't even read CDs of any type.
I'm getting an error message in my device manager saying the driver is either missing or corrupted, and all help instructions have failed to fix it.

I had just recently encountered an error 39 messeage with my HL-DT-ST and freeked out. After 1 week of trying to resolve this problem without having to buy new equipment, I decided to try something new.
First, I backed up all my files. Second, I picked a restore recovery point from about 1 month earlier when I knew the system was running fine and bammo, I got lucky, all is well for me again. This may not work for all, it is however free and worth a shot. The restore recovery did not lose any other current info from any of my files and I still have my backed up files on a 4 gig memory stick ready to go if there was a major problem. Good luck!! |

Hello! I don't know what happen with my DVD drive in booth menu it show up but when the windows log on it was not showing up. I try to browse it on my device manager and it is said that the driver for my DVD drive is missing.
By the way I am using Windows Vista. I try the method of unplugging it from the motherboard and plug it again but still nothing changes happen. I am trying to search the driver through internet but I am having a hard time.
Can anyone out there help me to do so...?? |
