Guys, i guess we don't need any driver, we jez need new cd-rom, but maybe from other brand than lg. if the problem can be solved by a new driver, it don't take so long for lg to help us. better try another product.

I have the same problem with the 8521b drive - but only since I installed XP on my machine.
I was hoping an updated driver may be the solution, but I can't track one down!

I noticed many posts about this, has anyone figures out why it doesn't read the CD's? I know I have about 20 IBM workstations, and a lot of them seem to have the same problem. If you insert the CD rom, it won't read it at first, but if you remove it, and then reinsert it, it then reads the CD rom. And works fine until you reboot the computer.
I'm not sure if it's an issue with the CD-ROM, or with Windows XP.

It's weird I got the message to insert a cd when there was one already in the drive. Went to properties, and found that it was using my burner driver. Got rid of that and went back to atapi, but still have the same problem. Tryed upgrade and roll back nothing works. Unhooked the cable to read the model # to look up driver. no results. Perhaps to uninstall and reinstall? Only my original os was compaq98. This is a compaq presario 7360. It's os was 98, I upgraded to XP. No problems till now.

It seams to work fine for a little while if you remove the CDROM from the device manager and reboot...

Same as above with the LG Drive. MMLGCD52 is the model number the vendor gave me.
Upon inserting a CD the machine either 1) won't boot. or 2)if already booted, machine will freeze until i remove the CD.
Contacted vendor, he says will send me appropriate driver... i'll try to post here with an answer.

Hey i may have a fix. i had similar problem with my 8320b. im on an nforce chipset and finally tried uninstalling the nvidia ide sw drivers and now it works. just something to try :)

Similar problems here, with one other wrinkle. When I look at the drive in Device Manager (right-click and choose Properties) I see the following message:
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
I don't know what this code 41 is. Any ideas?

I solved my issue, very interesting. I'm basically a computer rookie when it comes to getting into the hardware but an earlier post (click the 'Previous Page' link at the bottom of this page) pointed me to an error page at Microsoft.Com and it recommended changes to the Registry file. Once changes were made it worked immediately. The article ID at microsoft.com is 314060. Good luck.

I'm beyond frustrated!
Okay. I have a GCR-8523B and GCE-8523B. Running XP. The GCE (burner) reads and writes just fine. HOWEVER, the GCR (reader) doesn't read anything! It shows up in the Device Manager, and in Explorer however it does not read any CD I insert - a written CD or even a legit game CD. When I go to Explorer and try to get into the CD it keeps saying "Please insert disc" or something. GRRRR!
I've tried the suggestion for the error 39 (ie deleting the upperfilters and lowerfilters in the registry), tried deleting the drivers in the Device Manager and rebooting, and I've even downloaded the firmware v1.04 from lgeservice and tried to run it - I got an error message reading "Mismatch Protocol between F/W and drive". - any idea what the hell that means?
So now I'm looking at the nvidia suggestion, but I have a Radeon 9200. - should I continue to research this or will I end all messed up?
Am I screwed? Should I just trash this thing and buy a new one?

It's really a big problem for me that my CDROM doesn't detect any CD. I am fed up with this device.Earlier it was not detecting some CD's but know it has stopped detecting all CD's.the suppliers HCL computers in India are hopeless and the manufacturers are worst.To get a big orders they quote less prices,they use all sorts of bogus and third class items in the PC's and the user is the person who suffers.

Hi Kalana,
I had the same problem with upgrading firmware to my lg gcr-8523b Cd Rom. When I tried to run firmware I received the same error as you ("Mismatch Protocol between F/W and drive". )
The problem was related to virtual drive (ISO, Alcohol 120%) and after disabling the virtual drive I was able to run firmware.

I am having the same problem with mine, GCR 8483B.... Says please insert cd, when one is inserted, mismatch protocol between f/w and drive, device manager says its working properly, is everyone using a dell optiplex?? because this is the cdrom that came with my dell optiplex, i've tried putting other cd-rom in here, same errors, but the cd-rom listed in device manager i dont think is the correct one, it is the one that keeps automatically installing when i uninstall the cd rom, it says under cdrom MS9247p AUQ141N SCSI Cdrom device, you can email me at ashley10885@gmail.com |
