Windows will always display your burner as just a regular CD-ROM drive since that is the only way it can use it. Of course, your CD writing software should be able to work with the CD-Writer. You may want to try reinstalling the burning software and getting the latest version.

Your Wrong cause mine does that to and updating my burning software was just a waste of time. i cant even use the windows file burning wizard. |

I have a Compaq Presario 6000 with the burner possibly manufactured by LG electronics and my computer doesn't even see the drive.

There are never drivers for CD-Writers in Windows.
To verify this fact and for more information pertaining to your problem please visit LG Electronics' drivers page for their CD-RW models. Although they only have drivers for Windows 3.1 and DOS (since none are required in Windows 95 and up) they do have a FAQ that may help resolve your problem.

i seem to have the same problem as others with drivers for xp for this cd rw. mine is also an oem model if you cant help me where could i get the drives for it as it is becomning a bit of a pain as the cd is not even being recognised |

From what I found online, there are no downloadable drivers for this CDRW. However, from what I have read, the manufacturer only supports EZ CD Creator 5 and up. So, according to the info, in order for this one to work, you have to have this version or higher installed on your system. Hope this helps.

After updateing Roxio to v5.3.5 the drive disappears from our systems. The only way to get the PC to reconize any drive is to reload it. |

I have a problem with the above mentioned CDRW. It does not work properly with Windows Xp.
It seems to be writing the disc but when I try to read it afterwards de CDRW drive goes in hang-up and the tray will not open anymore.
The drive works perfect with Window 98..
Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My CD burner doesn't work anymore, here's the situation:
I formatted my computer (yes dear readers, dont laf woka -remember previous disscusions - nyways, because I had win98 and wanted to move to XP and my sis installed lots o crap bout 2 gigs of unkown crap, getin back at what i wuz sayin, and my CD Burner doesn't work anymore... In details:
1. Formated My com (to NTFS fil system, winXP)
2. Installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 5
3. Burned a CD With Easy CD Creator: FAILED
4. Installed Nero Ultra 6 Burning software
5. Burned a CD Nero 6: FAILED (See the attachment for details)
6. Burned a CD with built-in XP burner : FAILED
now... I did research, and found out winXP is using the same software of Roxio (Easy CD Creator's software) So I taught Maybe If I reinstalled to repair mode windows, maybe the drivers and softwares would get back to normal and stuff... so:
7. Uninstalled Roxio Easy CD Creator
8. Reinstalled Windows XP in repair mode
9. Tryed burning a CD again with NERO, still ain't working...
... Running out of ideas here... I need to burn my Final Session CD Project but I CANT and I cant afford loosing the data to burn on my com so formatting is out of the question! ANY ideas????
I attached the NERO logs burning failure,
Here are a few notes that may help:
While burning, It takes around 30 seconds, then says the burning failed...
Also here is the Burner I use: HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE 8481B
its a 48x24x48... or it used to be... Hope to get ideas soon

Hello all,
Basically, everything boils down to this...
CDR/CDRW drivers will not work real well on Windows OSs 2000 or after. Microsoft is incorporating the Windows environment to have extensive multimedia capabilities. For the HL-DT-ST CD RW drive, if one is using an earlier operating system, you will need Roxio 5.0. The software recognizes the drive. For XP, your best bet is not to load in any drivers whatsoever. XP has its own CDR/CDRW recognition. Installing additional drivers will result in XP automoatically disabling the CD writing service due to conflicts. Roxio 5.0 does not work on XP or greater systems.
Bottom line -
Windows 2000 or prior systems require Roxio 5.0 to burn the CD's. XP systems require the operating system's CD writing software to do the job.

Can I burn 90 minutes cds with my LG 24X??? Nero Burning rom 5.5.10.15. seem like it doesn't recognize my 90 minute cd. It says that it is 700MB compact disc.

OK,Go to www.cdfreaks.com for the upgrade.
If you are running xp and it still dont work...........I assure you I tryed every driver in the world and all the flash upgrades to no avail,,,Pop open the case!
Make sure the ribbon conectors are all pushed in properly.I think there are 3 or 4.
Its a trick to open the case so take some time and beer! |

I tried a lote of CDs... traxdata, verbatim, platinum, emtec... but my drive won´t know as 90 min CDs.
