RE: How do you copy onto a CD writer

Gloria,

To copy to a CD-Writer you will need to install special software that will allow you to accomplish this.

If there is no software that came installed on your computer, I would recommend you purchase either:

Easy CD Creator 4.0 Deluxe
OR
Nero Burning ROM 5.5

which are both fine software that I use on a regular basis. You can also download the shareware version of Nero Burning ROM to try it before you buy it from the Silicon Guide File Center.

Happy burning,

Eric Georgieff

RE: How do you copy onto a CD writer

I have read a lot about Nero Burning ROM 5.5 but nowhere have I been able to find the speed of its conversion of an AVI video file to MPEG 1 or 2. Normally such encoders take 10" for one minute of AVI file Does this apply to 5.5 also ?

Cd Writer Problem

I have a cd writer sorry not sure which brand, that has caused nothing but problems...
First it didnt get along with my computer and created a competition between my cd rom and my cd writer....Eventually we have moved the writer to another computer but I still have a big problem. I will write a data cd and close it and it will only be able to be read by some computers. There is no obvious reason. My computer will tell me the disk isn't formatted while other computers can read it. The other computers do not have a cd writer in them just a cd rom so they dont have any extra software. Any answers???

RE: How do you copy onto a CD writer

Copy it with any good writer/copy version software. The compatibility of the software to that computer is important. That cd will be ok when played on the same system only:Win 98/Win.XP,etc.I do not know how some conflicts will occure with email attachments that were previously displayed, then copied to your cd.

RE: How do you copy onto a CD writer

I see questions, but no answers. I need to copy pictures and other emails I have received so I don't use up all my alloted storage. I have Outlook Express. Another help site said to go to TOOLS - OPTIONS - MAINTENANCE - STORE FOLDER. There is no MAINTENANCE tab on my results. I have Windows XP.

RE: How do you copy onto a CD writer

Hi Mary,

I'm not sure why you don't have the maintenance tab on your version of Outlook Express. However, they probably told you to go there just to find out where your e-mail is being stored.

There are 2 possible situations.

1) If you are running a copy of Outlook Express on your home computer, then the e-mail messages are most likely stored on your own hard drive. This is the case if you are connecting to a POP mail server. In this case you can try to find out manually where your messages are stored (since you don't have the maintenance tab). The default storage location for Outlook Express e-mail data, if you are running it on a local computer seems to be:

C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{DFF16927-88E6-4EAA-A097-460B7E65289B}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

where USER_NAME is the user name you use to log into Windows XP. If you don't know what your user name is click the Start button. There should be a button, above the button that says "Turn Off Computer..." that says "Log off USER_NAME...". Example: Log off Mary

Anyways, to get to the folder, open My Computer. Then double click on the C drive. Then open the Documents and Settings folder. Then open your user folder which should be the same name as your user name (i.e. the USER_NAME). Then open the Local Settings folder. Then open the Application Data folder. Then open the Identities folder. This may have a weird name like {DFF16927-88E6-4EAA-A097-460B7E65289B} (yours will most certainly be different). Then open the Microsoft folder. Now you should finally see a folder called "Outlook Express". This is the folder that contains your Outlook e-mail data. And so this is the folder you want to backup. To back it up just copy it somewhere else. For instance, you could copy it to another hard drive, to another computer or burn it onto a CD using whatever software you use to burn CDs.

2) If you are running a copy of Outlook Express that is being managed by the IT department of your company, then the e-mail messages are most likely stored on their central server and not on your local computer. This may be why you have no maintenance tab. If this is the case, then you cannot backup your mail folder manually.

If you are trying to back-up data that is stored on a corporate e-mail server (i.e. situation #1), then not all hope is lost. You have 3 options in this case.

Option 1: Manually backup your images. In other words, go into each and every single e-mail you have that contains pictures and save these pictures to a folder on your computer. Then copy this folder somewhere else (example: onto a USB stick, or burn it onto a CD).

Option 2: Obtain an IMAP e-mail account from an e-mail provider. Then set up this account so that you can access it from your e-mail at work and your e-mail at home. Then, from Outlook Express, just drag all of your messages from your Inbox at work, to the Inbox that was provided to you by this new e-mail provider (which will most likely cost a bit of money...I'm not aware of free IMAP e-mail providers at the moment). It will take a little while to copy all of the messages over, if they are taking a lot of space, but this is probably the most convenient and reliable option. Then you can just delete all of the messages from your work Inbox to free up some space and go home and have access to all of these messages from your home copy of Outlook Express using the professional IMAP e-mail service.

Option 3:
Just do as in Option 2, but instead use Hotmail. Outlook Express can be programmed to access your Hotmail account. Hotmail come with 5 gigabytes of storage space now, which should be sufficient to store a ton of picture. And you can sign-up for a free account if you don't already have one by visiting hotmail.com

Once you have the Hotmail account and have set it up so you can access it using Outlook Express, just drag and then delete as described in Option 2.

If you need more details about these options, let me know. I realise there is a lot of info, and I'm not sure exactly what your situation is and therefore what the best course of action is.

Regards,

Eric.

How can e-mail messages be copied to CD without pasting
the text to Word Document and then sending to CD (this is
a slow process).

I would like to avoid archiving but still like to clean
