Plior,
As the name suggests, the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8240B is a CD Writer and not a DVD Writer. So it cannot burn DVDs.
If you would like to burn DVDs, there are many DVD writers currently available on the market that should do the trick.

urr, i'm not sure if this topic is still going, but i have that drive also and i don't have any problems with reading VCD's. How old is it? Try getting an update from the LG website http://www.lge.com.

I had to re-format my hard drive and can't find the download for my CD-RW. Is there any way to re-download?

Did you ever figure out how to get the writing software for the PC back? I'm in the same situation as you, also looking to find software that will allow me to write to the 8240B after a disk crash wiped my program out.

hello, everytime i want to burn music with this writer it says the station is not ready or doesn`t see the disc......what can be the problem? perhaps a drivermalfunction or maybe update? or perhaps my writer is broken? i have tried several different types of discs and i am out of options here...has anybody a solution for this problem?

Hello...
i trid to burn 800mb CD's , but every time it say's
that the cd is only 703mb big.
But i know thats 800mb so its a problem of the cd-writer.
I tried it with nero 6 and the window xp burning program.
So what can i do?
