 dvd rom

I had an compaq presario 5000 that died on me. a friend built me another system. i wanted to take the dvd-rom from the compaq and install it in the new system, but i dont have the software disc.
do I need a disc to install this or can it be done another way?

Hi pinklady,

You should not require any software to install your DVD-ROM into the new system. Just install it in one of the spare bays and Windows will have the necessary drivers to operate it.
