RE: CD Drive won't stay closed? Try pushing it in all the way manually

Hi - I stumbled on a solution for our cd-rom tray that would not stay shut. I pushed it in, rather quickly and all the way, with my hand -- rather than just nudging it or pushing the button. The motor does not seem to take it in all the way by itself. When it push it in with a bit of force, it stays shut and works.

RE: CD Drive won't stay closed? Try pushing it in all the way manually

Yeah my HP Pavilion dv6500 has just started having this problem.
I play The Sims a lot and today whenever I put the game in the CD drive makes horrible whirring noises and grindy-clicky noises every 30-seconds or so, continuously. Even when I close the game it will continue to do this until I just take the CD out.

After that, whenever I try to close the tray while it's empty, it keeps clicking open again.

Now I just put a DVD in there and it will stay shut without grinding noises, but it doesn't seem to register that I even have a disc in there.

RE: CD Drive won't stay closed? Try pushing it in all the way manually

Heather (around 11/08) finally gave me the clue to solve my problem. It was same as others, my E drive drawer on HP computer would not stay closed. I also didn't know what a bezel was and from her post, I realized it was the front cover for the tower. I pushed it from the side several times -- just kind of blindly trying to make sure the sides were straight and then tried to close the drawer again and still wouldn't stay closed but when it popped back open, there was a present! A folded up rubber piece about a half inch thick with a hole in it -- it is about the size and shape of the middle area of a CD/DVD. I pulled it out (wondering if it was important) and everything works fine now!!

RE: CD Drive won't stay closed?

Go to Desk Top, Right click on My Computer...click on Properties....Click on Hardware devise Manager....Click on DVD/CD ROM DRIVERS.....Click on "Scan for Hardware changes." It will automatically close.
Now....You may not be able to manually open it once this is done; SO..... Repeat the above steps again, and should be fixed.
Please email me, and Let me know if this works for you!

RE: CD Drive won't stay closed? Try pushing it in all the way manually

I had this problem. All I did was insert a disc, quickly keep hold of the eject button before it comes out. Keep hold of it for about 8 seconds and it will then read the disc. It was fixed from there.

RE: CD Drive won't stay closed? Try pushing it in all the way manually

You won't believe this guys... but try it and it always works.
Sit facing the EAST and proceed with the following steps:
1. left hand near the danger spot and right thumb on the CD tray
2. Deep breath
3. Start scratching furiously and at the same time press the CD tray button.
4. The drive will go in and eject again.
5. Do this 108 times... but don't forget to keep scratching.

If this does not get you anywhere, re-install the IDE VIA drivers in the "Device Manager" of your Administrative Tools from the Control Panel.

I found that the bezel was stopping the tray from closing all the way. Took it off and i stays closed. I have not yet put it back on.

RE: CD Drive won't stay closed? Try Paperclip Engineering

I have a HP Pavillion that liked to keep the cd/dvd open 24/7.

I tried a couple of the solutions posted on here, but what worked for me
was holding the tray closed, then pushing a paperclip into the emergency
eject hole - goes in for about an inch - and then poking around until I
felt a gentle 'click'.

The drive is now ready for action!
