This one works for me, in internet explorer, go to TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - PROGRAMS - MANAGE ADD-ONS - then select YAHOO TOOLBAR HELPER and DISABLE it.

OK so here is what worked for me. Completely uninstalling all versions of Java, restarting my computer, installing the newest version of Java, restarting the computer again. So after this I figured I was good, I got onto MySpace and went to send a message to my friend, and it closed again. GRRR! BUT, I noticed an ActiveX control on the page before it closed. So I went back and installed that, it was Adobe Flash Player, and now IE hasn't closed at all in the past 40 minutes, whereas before it was closing sometimes as often as ever minute. Fluke? Possibly. But as long as it's working, I'm totally ok with that.

CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONS>ADVANCED TAB> UNCHECK THE ENABLE THIRD PARTY BROWSER EXTENSIONS>APPLY>OK>RESTART

I tried deleting the cookies, browser history, forms data without success. Then uninstalled, from Control panel->"Add or Remove Programs", unnecessary toolbars like AskMe, BearShare's MediaToolBar and it worked! Make sure IE is closed while uninstalling. |

A simple solution to this problem (although, admittedly, not the most elegant) would be to install an alternative browser such as Mozilla Firefox (which is already being used by almost 20% of people).
You will probably even find that you much prefer Firefox to Internet Explorer and that is is more secure. And like internet explorer, it is free.

Well, I have the same problem, always when on facebook, myspace, etc. Have firefox and IE and problem occurs on both. I do not have THIRD PARTY BROWSER EXTENSIONS option box though, why not? I have tried all the problems above, don't know what to do....help... |

I just had this happen tonight (December 21, 2008) and never before had it happened to me. I followed one poster's wise advice on this wonderful web-site!! and opened Internet Explorer and immediately clicked the red STOP Icon at the top to halt the browser, then quickly went to Tools, Internet Options, and deleted all the cookies in the Temporary Internet Files and the problem was no more! PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME, I HAVE COLLEGE WORK TO DO AND CANNOT GET ON THE INTERNET THROUGH ANY BROWSER!!!
I use firefox all the time, ive tried EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID ABOVE! im currently on a friends computer,
Any browser i open instantly closes, i have tried all the virus and spyware scanners on my pc.
I have unclicked all the boxes mentioned as well as disabling.
Some one must be able to help, everything else works on the pc, please help

see the post from josh on 7/31/06 01:29:32. I took his approch and it worked do this on each user account. It was goolgle tool bar that that caused the problem. I had this tool bar on for a while and did not have a problem until I downloaded the msm tool bar. |

This solved my problems:
1. Go to All Programs and click on Contro Panel.
2. Make sure you are in Classic View, click on Internet Options.
3. In Internet Properties click on Advanced.
4. Under Browsing remove the checkmark under Enable third-party browser extensions.
5. Click apply and OK. then restart your computer. |
