I don't think its Nero. I have the same problem with other burner apps too after I had a virus and eraticated the virus. I have the Image Recorder issue still so its not only with Nero. Did any of you guys have a virus issue and then not able to see the burner? |

i had to the same problem and took the advice to install the burn4free software and sure enough it resolved my issue! i also believe by theory if you want to still use nero buy it or delete nero completely out of the registry which could be buried several times in several locations |

I just downloaded another version of Nero (7.7.5.1 Lite), installed it without even unisntalling the other Nero and it worked. When I firts opened this new version it had two burner options: the image recorder and my actual drive. I selected my drive and it worked. This version burns a little too slow, IŽll confess, but at least it works...

Ihad this problem and used Panda Active Scan Pro (free) to look for and find Trj/clicker.AOG virus. This proved impossible to remove on my own. I had to allow a remote connection with my internet security provider and the whole process took 3 hours. Now everything is back to normal and my NEC burner is back in the drop down box of Nero. This was probably the same problem as that you are experiencing. The problem with this malware is that it won't let you in to System 32.exe to find out what's causing the problem. GMER and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware might help. |

i got the same as all u guys, nero and only image file, so b%^^& frustrating, i have uninstalled reinstalled amazing amount of times, new versions old versions, even installed about 3 other different burn programmes, all the same result, only image, i even got to the stage of changing the jumper positions on my cd rom drives, been at it for days,updated aspi, done everything that has been suggested, with failure everytime,even reformatted, HEEEEELLLLPPPP. LOL |

OK, I FIXED MY PROBLEM, FAIRLY DRASTIC BUT IT WORKED, FORMATED MY DRIVE, INSTALLED FRESH XP, WITH SERVICE PACK 2(PREVIOUSLY I HAD SERVICE PACK 3)REINSTALLED ALL MY PROGRAMMES AND NOW THEY ALL WORKING OK, I THINK THE ISSUE WAS A SOFTWARE ISSUE, AND SERVICE PACK 3 MAY HAVE BEEN A FEATURE IN THE TROUBLES.THIS IS JUST WHAT I DID, AND ONLY A GENERAL OPINION, I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS, OR THAT MY SOLUTION WILL ALSO FIX YOURS. |

Guys the solution is combofix.exe just google it...thanks to the guy who originally posted the usefull infomation ....if you didn't catch that download combofix.exe so that your programs can locate your burner....man im glad i dont have to see image recorder again ...yepppyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy |

Hopefully combofix will help me too.
I use the Nero 6 suite intergrated with Nero Smart Start. This application provides several Nero tools such as NeroVision, Nero Express, Tool Kit and Recode2 and more.
All Nero applications see my burner, except Recode2. All of the sudden it only allows me to choose Image Recorder or Hard Disc. Instead of being able to use Recode (comress DVD files) and burn straight to disc ,I now have to save to hardisk and then use Nero Express to burn to blank media |

Ran this tool, it found a root kit, I deleted the rootkit after turning off system restore and rebooted. Both DVD's were available after that for burning in Nero.????????????

has anyone used this combofix.exe and if so what link did you use? i went to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix and it asks that you turn off all firewalls, antivirus, and spyware before download, and to me that sounds like a "RED FLAG" incase thats jus an open door invite to a virus!
but if you used it and didnt give your computer cyber-aids, please let me know!
im tired of the IMAGE recorder problem, and i been sitting here at my computer for 2 days trying to install, uninstall, upgrade, etc!
BTW-- i do not know how to format my computer =( |

Hi Jessica, I had the same problem when I updated to a new DVD multi recorder.
Combofix.exe did not fix it, and was a waste of time. Updating Nero to the last available update worked. I can now see my DVD drive in the list of recorders.
However, updates for Nero were not available on their site, because I was using an old version (Nero 5.5). I found a site with all the old versions of Nero updates on it: http://www.oldversion.com/Nero.html
