RE: write protected file

Hi sjyothi,

Right click on the file and select "Properties". Then uncheck the "Read Only" check box in the Attributes section of the "General" tab. That will make the file not write protected so that it can be deleted or quarantined.

RE: write protected file

Hi Vianey,

Try to find the file that has been infected by a virus (either by running a Search via Start > Search or by browsing for the file in My Computer) and then right click on the file and select "Properties". Then see if under the "General" tab in the "Attributes" section the "Read-Only" check box is checked. If it is, uncheck it and click ok. You should then be able to delete the file that has been infected.

Eric.

Delete the files that can not delete from windows

Hi guys, i was looking something else, and i found u all asking about deleting files and changing attributes, so i hold for a minute before i go to pray.
- here is a way-
this tutorial need a mild knowledge about DOS/windows systems

Endtask the Explorer.exe and the other software/utilitys running in ur system. now in task manager Go to Application Tab and click New Task and type "cmd" (with out " ")you will get a Comand prompt. (if u didnt get instead if u get a error msg u dont have permission or u are not allowed/ not found. {then cause number 2 : it can be a infection, or u are using guest account, or your log is customized by some others perhaps parents/administrator - most time it is Virus)

- okay lets say CMD appear.
then go to the path the file (location,there are many ways to the location {path} easyly} try using "CD {folder name}" {enter}(no brackets, no ""- start from CD .. ;
when u r in the location, type DIR /A to see all files (hidden and system)

after that
type "Attrib -h -r -s {file name} ( H= hidden/R=read only/S=system) (if u change the symbol "-" to "+" the it will add these attributes to that file)

for help { attrib /? }

after its successfully arrtibuted, then type
"Del {file name}

-its my prayer time now, if anything contact me, ill try to help-
shafeekmhd@gmail.com

thank you, if its work, send me thanx :D

RE: write protected file

I have a write protected file on an external hard drive. I keep clicking on properties, unclicking the Read Only Function, and clicked Apply. However when I try to delete it, it says it's write protected and when I open the properties, the Read Only option is on again. Also, when I try to move it, it to another Hard Drive, it says the name is too long. Only people who know how to fix this please!
