Memory Card Write Protection
Got it ! The solution, that is.
As I read all the notes, we're all experiencing the same problem. I just resolved it on my machine (XP).
I can write to the card when it is in my camera. When I insert the card into my USB slot on the printer, I can read and download the photos, but I cannot write to it...same problem y'all are having.
Soooo, I tried using my 26-in-1 card reader and plugging that into a USB slot..........VOILA! Don't know why, don't know how, but I can now write to the card. Give it a go ! |

the guy is right about the adapter
I have an SD card and Kingston Reader (just fyi) as well
it was the adapter that was the problem I plugged the reader directly into the USB port instead of using the adapter and it worked |

PEOPLE!! First of all, if the problem can be solved with the LOCK/UNLOCK switch, then we wouldn't have so many people asking for help, AND we wouldn't even be. It's so simple-- it's a no-brainer, even a fifth grader will know WHERE it is and WHAT'S ITS FUNCTION IS. As it is, even if we UNLOCK the damn switch, IT STILL ISN'T WORKING (so I guess you should stop posting it as the ONLY solution coz it IS NOT, and IT DOESN'T WORK FOR EVERYONE AT ALL). Secondly, the post about regedit, there's nothing there about #8. Third, for this link--http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1248#15, YES WE KNOW WHERE THE UNLOCK SWITCH IS, THANK YOU. You can stop gloating about your brilliant brain now coz we aren't stupid and we've tried that and for the Nth time, IT ISN'T WORKING FOR US. Now if someone who isn't nuts and isn't out to annoy people could read these posts, please, for the love of God (if you don't have a God, then for the love of your peace of mind) PLEASE HELP US. Seriously! |

well even if i used a card reader and the adapter thing, it still won't work. i guess the only solution now is to throw your memory card, sigh as heavy as you want, regret the loss of your files for a few days, then move on. |

hey guys, I think I know the reason why our SD memory cards had "Write-protection" problem. You will need a new and most updated reader to read it. I just find out from my friend and it solves the problem. I can use my card without any problem at all. You will need to invest some money to buy a new reader to update your more memory card in future too. Good luck. |

Firstly, I have the samsung SCH-u740 (double flip) and i've had it for 2 years, in these 2 years I have yet to find a way to transfer music from my computer to my music player. I am using a samsung micro SD adapter, the origional that came with my phone. As well as the Sandisk 128MB micro SD card, that also came with the phone. Everytime I put the mirco SD in the adapter and put it in my computer, I can take pictures off of it, but I can not add music or pictures to it. And each time I try and move music onto the card, I get the write protected message.
And NO it is NOT LOCKED, i'm not stupid, I can read, thank you for telling my to check that numerous times, each time it didn't help.
Okay, so NONE of the other tips are working, I don't know if it has something to do with the adapter or the micro SD card.
If anyone knows why this may not be working for some reason that I may have missed, please, PLEASE, let me know. |

Okay, so here's the deal, for all those of you tearing your hair out.
Yes, many of us SERIOUSLY tried moving the tab to unlock. And we've tried the "slide it to the middle" thing. And we've tried the tape thing. And we've tried switching to another card reader/adapter and taping THAT one. And it STILL... DOESN'T... WORK.
Here's why.
Many Cell Phones, MP3's, etc, will "format" your card for you. What they DON'T tell you is they format it write-protected. Some Phones use a password for this. Some phones DO NOT. I personally have a samsung-i-don't-remember-the-model. I don't believe it HAS pw protection on it, but it's elsewhere now and I haven't had time to go messing with it. (No, don't ask why my phone is elsewhere).
Basically, you can't remove write protection without REMOVING write protection. Normally, you would do that on the device you stuck it in originally. HAHA, most phones won't let you do that. Nice way to sell more SDmicro cards, no?
I HAVE MANAGED, TWICE, to trick my computer into reformatting the card. Sometimes it stays that way. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I brick the card. I've done it by sticking my card in and QUICKLY hitting format. It once actually let me upload about 40 pics before it told me again it was write-protected.
To MOST OF YOU:
Seriously - Scan your phone. Look for some sort of a password option on the storage. REALLY LOOK. check the hidden firmware. Unlock your phone. Get the hidden key from the manual or a buddy who works at Sprint-TMobile-Verizon-Whoever PUT you in this situation in the first place.
To the REST of you:
I've tried myself creating the storageDevicePolicies in my registry and setting it to 0 because I didn't have it either. (It does seem like a sound plan). I use Windows XP 64. Basically, you open notepad, paste the code, and rename the file as a .bat then run it. You should find it in your registry and be able to set to 0 (I only set for currentcontrolset but on reboot it changed for all 3 folders). It didn't work for me, even though I thought it had.
So next I'm gonna try cracking open my phone and see what the dilly. Hope I can find that setting. Happy hunting, and good luck, seriously. |
