RE: IItronics IMP-11 MP3 Player

Hi all

Was given the Iitronics as a gift and it doesn't seem to work. At first, found that about 6 of 130 songs played, the rest produced a message of 'unknown format'. Took it back to Argos and received a replacement which won't play anything as all songs now display the message 'unknown format'. Don't know enough about these things to fix the problem. Also want to know how to creat folders. Can someone help. Cheers.

dang why did I buy this??

Well brought a imp-11 2gb, mp3 player, and was told couldn't return it by Argos, after a couple of times useing it, I turned it on to be met by the colour change but it had no writing on, and with out the writing I can't go through the options of playing the darn songs. All I'm getting is a blank screen all the time. I read through the mannual but it doesn't mention anything about it, Is there a way I can get all the stuff like all the options and everything that is needed to get it up and running again?????

RE: IItronics IMP-11 MP3 Player

have constantly had a problem with it - its 2GB, there is enough space for all the music i put onto it and it comes up on the computer, but only half of the folders will come up on the player, so kinda pointless having the other stuff on there - it just seems to disappear!was there supposed to be some kind of software with it too?thinking taking it back to argos and getting something that actually works might be a good solution!

RE: IItronics IMP-11 MP3 Player

my brother recently bought the same mp3 and after hours of trying to get the music on the mp3, i worked it out...

1. first you need to copy the music from a cd onto the computer, using windows media player. to do this you put the disk in the computer and it will come up with rip music. press yes.

2. after you have ripped the music you need to plug the mp3 into the computer using the cable.

3. now you can go onto windows media player and press the sync option at the top.

4. drag the music you want in to the right hand column.

5. press start sync at the bottom and this should work. it did for me, so if it doesn't work i have no other advice.

I bought this for my Father who was in hospital after suffering a stroke, wish I hadn't, I have tried every possible way of putting music on this product, but it stills says "no file" when I press play, however, if I plug it in and play back through the computer it works fine. My advice, through it in a field and run away from it. I ended up giving my Father my MP3 player to use, I read all the forums, but none worked for me. Thanks IItronics for wasting my valuable time. I couldnt get the mp3 player to play any thing even though i rammed it with tunes, when i opened it in xp it showed they were all there.
Anywaythe sloution is......

The mp3 player has 2 modes, one being an MP3 player, and two being a voice recorder.
The player was in the wrong mode.... Voice recorder mode, when u go into the menu on the player the very first option just press the M button on it, and it turns the player into audio mode....Job done!!!!!

IItronics IMP-65 MP3 Player

The last poster was a tad harsh, but the sentiment generally holds true. I bought the IMP-65 2Mb version for £30 about a year ago and it works fine. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

Here's a few tips for anyone using it in conjunction with MS Windows XP, though I expect it would be the same for Windows 2000 or Vista (maybe a bit optimistic there perhaps):-

Read the instruction sheet, then re-read twice more, before even switching the unit on. Remember, the instructions are written in "Chinglish", so don't expect 'em to be perfect. OK then, to be exact, the instructions are pretty P**s poor, but the player is OK, honest. Poor Argos should sue the guy that translated the stuff, as it must have cost them a fortune in returns and hassle.

Always use a new high power, or freshly charged rechargeable, battery. Incidentally, I find that rechargeables aren't ideal, as the unit seems to prefer a fairly high voltage, (rechargeables are about 1.2 volts rather than 1.5 volts).

Beg, steal, borrow, or rip your mp3s using whatever method you prefer. I can't be bothered to go into that here. I use "Exact Audio Copy for ripping, but it's not ideal for novices. Use your initiative, (some hope, hah). I recommend mp3 format, as it's the most versatile - it works on every player. Personally I always prefer 160, 192 or 256 bitrate depending upon circumstances. For aspiring geeks, Google this: bitrate wiki mp3

Make sure you've already got all the mp3 files on your PC. Don't try to rip directly to the player. Incidentally, from what other posters have said, don't even consider playing DRM protected files, (I don't have ANY). I also recommend that you steer clear of filetypes like WMA, OGG, RAM, flac, etc.

Hold down your keyboard's Windows key (near the bottom left) and press E briefly. This fires up the Windows Explorer. Navigate to wherever you store your mp3s. If you're lost at this point, please switch off your computer, parcel it up and sell it on eBay immediately.

Plug in your player to the computer. I recommend only using the device with a USB extension cable, otherwise it might not connect properly, and there's even a risk you could break it if there's excessive leverage when plugging it or removing it.

If Windows opens an Explorer window automatically, well that's fine, but I'm not keen on this method personally. I shut it instantly, and use Winkey E (as previously described) and navigate to "Removable Device". It's drive 'I' on my PC, but it will vary depending upon your PC configuration.

Ignore the MICIN.DIR folder, as it's a special system folder. Don't touch it.

You can then copy and paste files from the first Explorer window to the 'root folder' of the MP3 player. NB. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS, as there's a limit to the number of files you can store there, (99 or 128 at most I believe). This may be a hangover from DOS days. Don't ask. I don't know. Just trust me.

This is where it gets a wee bit more complicated. On a personal note, I should mention here that I don't use my player to play albums. I have it loaded with about 400 singles in 2 folders, half are in one called A-J, the other called K-Z. You will need to experiment a bit here to suit your personal preferences. Suffice it to say that you MUST create folders immediately below the 'root'. You can copy a folder full of files from your PC, but do not create 'subfolders' MORE than one level below the root.

Relating to file names; I use Musicbrainz to name and tag all my music files. If you're not very organised, you may have problems with naming. I strongly recommend that you at least use the most common format of - for filenames. For correct tagging, try using Winamp at least. There are better ways though. Let Google be your friend.

Another thing before I conclude. I do not recommend simply unplugging your player from the PC. I know it's convenient, but can cause problems occasionally. Ideally you should stop the device first. From the PC, go to the system tray (bottom right of the screen) and double-click the wee green and grey icon that says "safely remove hardware".

I forgot to mention previously. You DO NOT need any special drivers or software for Windows XP. I suspect (hope) that applies to Vista as well.

Forget the IITronics website - I believe it's dead.

I apologise for repeating some of the blub previously mentioned, but I reckon it's important enough to repeat.

Personally I quite like the player despite its limitations. It's lasted me longer than most of my friend's ipods. Hard drive players are easily damaged and expensive to replace.

RE: IItronics IMP-65 MP3 Player

postscript

Remember to use COPY when transferring files from your PC if you use my method. Do not MOVE them. You should always retain the original files on your PC "just in case".

The formatting of a paragraph near the end of my posting was slightly mangled by the website. It should read:

Relating to file names; I use Musicbrainz to name and tag all my music files. If you're not very organised, you may have problems with naming. I strongly recommend that you at least use the most common format of "artistname" - "trackname" for filenames. For correct tagging, try using Winamp at least. There are better ways though. Let Google be your friend

If you want to store complete albums and retain tracks in their correct order, you could allocate the filename using the format: "artistname" - "albumname/tracknumber" "trackname". e.g.

Coldplay - VLV07 - Viva La Vida.mp3
Coldplay - VLV08 - Violet Hill.mp3
Coldplay - VLV09 - Strawberry Swing.mp3

NB. This system works absolutely fine on my PC, but I don't play whole albums from beginning to end. The IItronics player is a wee bit weird. I think it likes an entire folder to be copied in one session, or else the order gets screwed up. As I say, it doesn't affect me so I don't care, sorry about that.

No-one mentioned it, but the IItronics player also works fabulously as an "emergency" USB flash drive for moving ANY windows files between work and home too. I've also found the voice recorder invaluable on a couple of occasions. Use your imagination and don't just think of it as a music player.

The current cheap and cheerful Argos/IItronics mp3 player costs £24.99 for 4Gb, item 513/4555 - I'd buy it for the kids if nothing else. Great value for £25 unless you're a technophobe, a luddite or only buy Macs, ipods, iphones, et al

Finally, Argos are currently selling an IItronics mp3 player "Speaker Dock" item number 534/6367 for only £5.99 and I can strongly recommend it as a handy holiday accessory to take with your player. Take loads of rechargeable AAA batteries though.

I really should get paid for this by IItronics (and Argos).

Good luck everybody.

RE: IItronics IMP-11 MP3 Player

Dear everyone, After trying all day to work my brother's IITronics MP3 Player, this is what finally worked for me. I wrote it out for him. Hope it helps!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR FORMATTING IITRONICS MP3 PLAYER
THEN PUTTING MUSIC TRACKS ON
What I had to do first when MP3 had gone funny –

1.FORMAT THE MP3 PLAYER
·Plug MP3 into computer.
·Open up “My Computer”
·Point to “Removable Disk F” with mouse. Right click
·On the list, select “Format”
·Look down the new list. Make sure under “file system” FAT32” is selected with the arrow (NOT just FAT)
·Make sure there’s NOT a tick in the box next to “Quick Format”
·Click START at the bottom.
·It will ask if you’re sure you want to delete everything. If you are, click “OK”
·The computer will now clear everything off your MP3 player.

2.Next you have to CREATE A NEW FOLDER ON THE MP3 PLAYER
to download your tracks into
·Keep MP3 plugged into your USB socket on computer
·Open “My Computer” on your computer
·Find “Removeable Disk F” and right click it. Select “Open”
.A new screen opens up.
·On the left side, under “File and Folder Tasks” click on “Make a new folder”
·An icon with a new folder appears with a blank tab for you to type in the name of it. I called it “New Music Folder” but call it whatever you like.
·This is the folder you need to make on the MP3 to copy your tracks into.

Instructions for putting stuff on MP3 Player
·Put computer on. Open up Windows Media Player. Stick CD you want to copy into the CD drive. Copy CD onto computer by clicking “RIP” at top of page. It will tell you as it does each track and tell you when it’s finished. Close Windows Media Player.
·Open up “My Documents”. Look for the folder called “My Music” and open it with a double click. You’ll see the CD album that you’ve copied. Double click this to open the list of individual tracks. If you want them all on your MP3, highlight them all. If not, highlight the first one you want.
·On left of screen look for window that says “File and Folder Tasks”. Click “copy this file”. It opens up a window with a “tree” or “map” of your computer
·Plug MP3 player into computer into the USB socket.
·On the tree, as the computer recognises your MP3 player, it will do a “dong ding” and a new bit will appear on the tree: “Removable Disk F” Click on it.
·Folders in your MP3 are now shown on the list. Click the lower one that says “New Music Folder” (NOT the one that says MUSIC)
·Now click “copy” (middle button at bottom of the square small screen)
·Your track will now be transferred onto the MP3. Repeat this for each track. Your MP3 can only cope with lots of individual tracks copying onto it. If you copy the album on without opening up the album first while it’s in the computer, your MP3 wont recognise it.

·Now unplug your MP3 player (Yes in the safe way by stopping it first) Click the round ON/PLAY button. Then push in/down on the slidy button at the top. You should see the name of your first track on the screen. Press the PLAY button again. Listen. Hooray!! To move from track to track quickly, slide the slidy button backwards or forwards.
