I have a problem with my HL DT-ST-CD-RW GCE-8400B and I can't find a driver , can someone help me. Thank you.

There is no separate driver for the GCE-8400B.
I had problmes with question marks next to the drive in Device Manager. The following article from MS Knowledgebase helped (320553):
"CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive appears to be missing after you install Windows XP"

When I insert a blank disc into this drive it says incorect fuction, but it reads other dics that have stuff on them. what can i do to fix this?

yes i have the same error. please, i know that the drive/driver is supposed to be automatically installed and inside of windows, but it is not working. in my hardware tree inside of windows it doesn't recognize either my hl drive or my dvd drive. both have error messages as above in the hardware device profile

My HL DT ST-CDrw- GCE-8400B has an explanation point in the device manager tree,
I get this error...

I have the same problem Wink does. Both my CD and DVD drivers have the exclamation point next to them. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers and I keep getting an error message stating that the registry is damaged. It also states that I have no history to roll back to. How do I fix them?

I got the explanation point out of device manager, and my Drive is showing in My computer now.
Disc still are not playing but keep an eye on the thread we'll probably work that issue out also.

autorun was working before i updated windows xp to sp2 now it stopped,can anyone tell me what i need to do to fix this problem.

I appear to have solved similar problem with my drive by downloading a FIRMWARE UPDATE off the following link:

(Read the text file & follow installation instructions). I dont have an IBM machine so was a bit worried, but definitely same drive so gave it a shot
(I saved file to my system & virus scanned 1st - advise same, but checked out ok)
didn't check but mebbe applies to 8481B

My device is recognized by my PC (No question mark, exclamation point or error message, it simply keeps ejecting - not recognizing anything I put in the tray. Any thoughts on how to fix this? |

Maybe by a mistake I deleted the software, and I get a yellow (!) in my System hardware. As I can't use Windows installation CD... Where and how can I get and install the software for my CDrw-CGE-8400B.

My cd-rw just stopped burning or reading discs. I also need help solving it. I shouldn't have to buy a new drive if it can be fixed by an update or reinstall. Does anyone have an answer? Thank you. |
