Hey there...
1st of all, u unscrew ur case from the back, and u remove the cover... (Make sure that the Power Cable is off the case, unplug the power from the case)
2nd by a screwdriver u remove the cover (where ur cd-rw is gonna fit in) and u put the cd-rw after installing master or slave from the jumper behind it(the cd-rw)
Jumper settings: it is obvious that u'll either use it as a3rd or 4th device on ur pc.
U'll read on the top of ur new device and just above the jumpers: Csel Slave Master or like only C S M .
U'll find that there is an IDE cable (wide cable) connected to ur cd-rom and ur HDD. and the other end to the Motherboard.
Now. U'll need 1 just like it (which comes with ur device) and connect it to the motherboard. (it connects in one way only)
Now u'll put the jumper as M or Master drive If it is a 3rd device and connect the 1st connector of the IDE Cable(the 1 at the far end not the middle 1)
If it is a 4th device put the jumper on slave or S and use the other connector.
and connect the Wide cable from it's back just like the CD-Rom or the Hard Disk.
and for sure a Power Cable just like the CD-Rom or the Hard Disk. must be connected.
3rd before tightening the screws , turn on ur pc it might not turn on.. guess y? u forgot the power cable :P
let the windows load... and open My computer. U'll find an extra CD-RW icon. it confirms that it is Done.
Note: u must turn off ur pc after that, and Tighten the screws of the CD-RW and the case from the back.

I have bought 2 Sony CRX230ED (52x32x52x) cd/rw recorders, i feel i have wasted my money!!! Nero doesn't recognise the drives as a writer and i'm really struggling, plus I am really upset and annoyed. The drives didnt come with any discs etc.
PLEASE PLEASE, someone help.

I've had the problems listed in this string when trying to make Sony CRX230ED with Ahead Nero 5.5 today. Have installed Ashampoo Recording Suite from CD free with "PC Companion" magazine and it works with this.
It's similar to Nero in layout and fairly basic allowing you to choose burn speed or offering "safe burn", firstly by copying to HD then to CDR.
It would seem that being a fairly new to the market cdrw deck that it will only work with fairly recent (late 2004) software. Yet to try later Nero v6 upwards.
Definately not recognised by Nero 5.5.

I have this SONY CRX230ED CD-Writer and Nero doesn't recognize it (in my hardware properties has a yellow sign too.. it has no drivers) does anyone know where I can get the drivers?

I have a sony 52x 32x 52x model#crx23oa-u. It was working wonderfully until I moved the computer to another room. Now drag to disk says no recorder . and I cannot record anything. It says to check my wires and connectors but I dont know how. Im very new at this. I have reinstalled everything but still have the same problem. Please help me.

Try buying Nero 6 from ebay @1.99 and you can then use CD-Rs for music cds, and CD_Rws for Data and your Cd rewriter will be recognised. Hope this helps.

hi,
i am using a sony cd-writer with 52x/32x/52x.its working fine as a rom.but when i am trying to write it ,gives a maximum speed of 42x for cd-r while the cd can support 52x writing speed.i tried reinstalling nero but same thing is happening ...kindly suggest

Hi, I have problems writing to CRX-230EE - not recogniseda s a writer by Nero 5.5 (will try downloading Nero6/7 trial version).
@Anilesh - try www.driverguide.com - you'll need to register to use the site (free of charge), but you should find the drivers there if you need them. For buring software - see below:
@arfan - try downloading nero trial version from www.nero.com or searching for FREE cd-writing software at www.tucows.com
@arun - it sounds as if you are using 40-wire cable, to write at full speed you need 80-wire IDE cable (still has the same size connector block, the ribbon is a lot finer though - every other wire is connected to ground to prevent EM inductive interference between neighbouring wires - a similar principle to coaxial cables in television ariels). It WILL NOT write at full speed with only standard 40-wire IDE cables.
Also, you may need to enable DMA - go to control panel/system/device manager. Select IDE controllers/Second IDE channel. Right-click, properties/advanced settings - set transfer mode to 'DMA if available'.

When I start my computer and when i open the my computer, the CD-RW icon is disappears. I have tried solving by uninstalling the secondary IDE channel and then Re Booted. again that yellow exclamation mark is appearing. and when i tried to reinstall the "CD-RW CRX230EE" driver the message is coming.
The message is-
Windows cannot start hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. Code[19]
