Hi,
I’m not sure what problems you guys had with the drivers for the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B Read/Write drive. My problem is that since I had to reinstall XP after a crash, I can no longer read CDs that have not been finalized. I think the driver that XP installed is a DVD driver and not a RW driver. Can anyone send me the correct driver? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey my sister aciddently deleted this drive, and now the icon in my computer for my cd-r drive is gone. I can't use any cd-roms. Somebody tell me how to get it back. |

I didn't get a chance to test it because the owner of the computer came and took it from my friend having the problem (his mother loaned it to him for a short while) - if I hear back that it worked or not I'll post that here.

This is the link for the driver everyone is looking for. XP is designed to find every driver in the book. Be careful when downloading drivers, especially with this operating system. After download right click on my computer, Click Hardware, Then Device Manager. Uninstall the HL-DT-ST CD-RW under DVD/CD-ROM Drives if listed and Reboot. It Might take a couple of times to do this, but it will work. Good Luck |

I am having problems with the same HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B drive. The only difference is that when I throw in a CD, the error message is that I cannot access the drive specified. Why I go through the 'my computer' icon to the drive and click on the drive, the message is 'device not available'. HOWEVER, when I attempt to open a play a music CD through Windows Media Player, it works! I ensured the permissions for the drive were set correctly. I use Windows 2000. My problem is similar to Mark's; however, I notice it with
Quicken. The message I get is "Cannot Read CD
drive". Quicken's Help says to format the drive like an
Alternate Hard Drive from the manufacturer's software?
I used to use Roxio (before my upgrade) now it doesn't
work and don't want to pay another $79 to get an XP
version. Any ideas would be welcome. |

THE SOLUTION:
FOLLOW THIS STEPS RELIGIOUSLY:
You must install direct CD and roxio at the *SAME TIME*... that the trick!
if you don't do that, CD-RW is always a CD-Rom.
That stupid I know... after that you can install other software. |

The matter with this driver is a big lot of the firts "CD Recording Software" was wrong or bad archive . I was your same problem with my CD burner and I get the right one CD Driver from the locar LG representative without cost.( sorry for my "tarzan" english ).

El problema con este driver es que una gran cantidad de los primeros "CD Recording Software" entregados junto al grabador venÃan malos y no servÃan para instalar una segunda vez . Yo reclamé al representante local de LG y sin ningun problemas me dieron un CD nuevo que funciona perfecto. Mi consejo es que contacten con LG y pidan que les envÃen un CD , ellos me dijeron que lo enviarán a cualquiera que lo solicite.

I called Gateway where I purchased my PC. They told me that there is no driver available and that they will have to fix my problem. Unlike most of the responses I have seen, my drive works, with the exception of being able to read a CD that has not been finalized, like the CD straight out of my camera. I used to be able to pull picture off it without having to close the CD out. |

I have the same problem, the burning software (nero) does not detect the cdrw GCD-8160.
Does anyone have any other idea? I don't know what else to do. I tried everything that was suggested in here, but nothing worked!

I was having problems with this CDRW Drive in my Dell system. In Device Manager I was getting an error CODE of 19, saying that there was a problem with the settings for this device in the registry.
If anyone is having this issue, try the following steps to resolve it. It worked for me:
Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Reboot the System. |
