Hi guys,
I'm having a problem with my Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop running Windows Vista. When I turn my computer on, after Windows Vista loads and I type my login password, Vista just hangs on the Welcome screen. I can leave my computer on for 20 minutes and nothing will happen. It just says "Welcome" and there is a circle thingy that spins around and around as if Vista is actually doing something.
I haven't made any changes to my configuration so I don't see how this could have started happening.
If I reboot my laptop enough times, I can eventually manage to get in.
Any ideas how to fix my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop?
Thanks,
Jessica |

Hi Jessica,
I had the same problem with my own Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. The solution for me was to download the latest versions of the Wireless network card drivers and the network card (NIC) drivers and to install these. Once I had them installed, I rebooted my computer and this issue went away.
If you can't actually get into windows, try booting into safe mode (by pressing F8 just before you see the Windows Vista loading screen and then selecting Safe Mode from the menu that shows up). You can download the drivers from another computer, copy them to a USB key and then access the contents of that USB key from your Vista laptop when you are in safe mode.
The drivers I used:
For the Wireless Network Card:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R151520.exe
For the ethernet card (regular network card):
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R149798.EXE
Hope this fixes your Windows Vista freezing problem.
Eric. |
