I have a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2002 combo cd burner. Till recently it was working perfectly. But now it does not burn any CDs. I can read CDs allright but cannot write. I have felt that while writing the CDs don't rotate. Does anyone know what could be the problem? what should i do?

I have a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2002 as well, and until about a week ago it worked good. Then it stopped recognizing when a disk is in the drive for any mode. It started having problems when I used it to erase a CD-RW.
Has anyone else found a solution? |

I have a samsung cd/dvd/cd-rw combo drive that I had until recently had been burning cds with. I installed a new version of WMP, Musicmatch, and i-tunes to try to get the burner to work. I keep getting the same "unknown error". For WMP it says that it doesn't detect the burner. Musicmatch says that there is a hardware error and it may be a damaged disc and i-tunes has an unknown error. All of the prevent me from burning cd's. I think it has to be the new programs because it's used to work. How could I possibly fix this problem? |

I have a Lite-on Combo SOHC 4832K, When I try to Play an audio CD it skips and jumps around . It dosent matter if it is one I burned or a store bought CD. Yet it will Play DVDs just fine . I ran the PC Doctor Diagnostics and everything seems fine . Do I need to replace this Drive or Could there be a softwear Problem somewhere? |

I own a toshiba satellite computer. my cd burner had been working well until recently. It will not recognize that a disc is in the drive. Moreover, if by a lucky chance that it does begin to burn, it fails at about the 10% mark. if your wondering, I am using the basic Musicmatch burner to create my Cds. |

last yr. i purchased a HCL pc ON DATED 5=SEP 05 with "LITEON COMBO DRIVE". Initally it worked properly and write about 8 to 10. But after that it make a problem and doesn,t write any cds and makes a cracking sound.

Wow i thought it was just me but seems to be an epidemic of the same exact symptoms im experiencing. Burner reads just fine but suddenly no longer writes. Writers strike? Damn unions! :) |

I haved HP to put a new motherboard in and a local store put my new modem in .Every since my burner will not work its a lite on combo sohc 4832k my warrenty ran out the end of Nov 05 so HP want help me with it.I have only used it about 6 times when this happen I need advice thanks. |

i have a sony cd burner and i use to burn well with the program Acoustica cd burner but then i stopped using my cd burner for like about 2 weeks and then when i was going to burn a cd,the program read the cd and i put burn but when the burning process was over the cd didnt work and i dont know what happen so can some one help me with this problem i dont know if its the cd burner that doesnt work and im going to have to buy a new one or is it the program??? |

My CD burner is not working. When I put a cd in, I do not hear the burner turn. Howver, when I go to my computer, right click and hit eject and then re-insert the cd, it will at least read the cd and I can hear the burner turn. Any ideas? |

People whose computers say they don't have a Cd in the tray, you need to FORMAT your CD before you can use it. Usually, softwares for burning CD's will do that for you before you start burning. |

This entire thread is filled with people complaining about the same problem. Thankfully, I managed to catch the post by "airvent", who mentioned something about editing a registry setting to fix the problem.
And so.. I pursued that tactic, with ample reward. :)
Basically, the solution was to open up 'regedit' and navigate to this folder:
'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives'
Then click on the "Volume {_key_}" folder, and change the 'Drive Type' key value data to:
1 for CD-R
2 for CD-RW
And, viola.. Open up My Computer, right click on the burner drive, click Properties, select the tab Recording, and check 'Enable CD Recording on this Drive'.
