Why does everyone need a driver for this cd-rw?
Installed on win98se and works fine. Works in DOS as well with atapi227b.exe DOS drivers from sony web site. |

FYI---the retail bundled kit comes with NERO burning rom and we have not had these issues, make sure the drive is installed as a master, do not have multiple burning programs on 1 system, use Sony, TDK, Kodak, Verbatim high speed media.
All Drivers are MS supplied, you need all the latest mother board , bios and patches from MS to obtain the speeds noted on the box
The product you have is OEM, and not supported by Sony.
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) products are not supported by Sony.
Sony manufacturers and license hardware to compliment other manufacturer's
equipment and is solely bundled as their product. We would like to be able
to provide support for your product, unfortunately, the product you have is
not a Sony supported product. A portion of Sony's business is producing
special products for manufacturers to install in their systems. We
recommend contacting the vendor directly for technical support or respective
OEM that the product was purchased from. The vendor is familiar with the
modifications on the product and best qualified to provided support.
We do however have installation and software information available on our

The Sony web pages will you a "page unknown" response.????? I have found out that Liteon has a sony manufactured cd-rw CRX230ED but I haven't found the driver for that one either though. I will try to find out what I can and let all know. |

Is the CRX230ad and ed the same, and isn't this suppose to be one of the largest electronics companies in the world? My drive just quit on me...after I installed Nero 5.5.9.! Worked fine in Alcohol 120%, which by the way I should have stayed with, if anyone gets in touch with sony for answers or drivers please post. And did anyone try the firmware upgrade for the CRX230AD on sony's homepage, and did it make any difference? |

I've had no problem w/most of the recogition of the CRX230ED.
B'sClip though wont recognize it.
I run Burn4Free for audio & CDBurnerXP for data.
Both work fine for each...Would b nice though, if someone could suggest a single prog. that has no prob doing both with the CRX230ED.
.....am currently D/L Nero6.3...we'll see.
But in the meentime? suggetions r welcome here. |

The problem here is that the older version of Nero at least up to 5.5.10.56 does not recognise the newer Sony CRX230ED drive. The drive detects etc. fine with XP so the issue is with Ahead (Nero) to come up with some support, or say hey its time to upgrade to V6 of their product as it has long superceded V5.
So all we need is a statement from Ahead in Germany. |

We have a problem with this recorder. He does not close CD when he records music on it. On your site there is no sony model 230 ED just 230 AD. Is there some new firmware to update this recorder.,

Well ive tried everything from nero 6.6, to roxio easy media creater 7, nothing works, it tries to burn at 40x then freeses up. most software i tried dosnt even reconize this drive. Im wondering if anyone found a fix for this prob. I am very surprised sony would even sell such a peace a s**t. |

if you are using NERO with this CD-RW, try to update it. I recomend not using NERO. Works perfect with other SOFT. And XP recognizes it too. |

Hi Vikas,
It sounds like you may need to replace your drive. But before doing that, try prying the drive open using a knife or something. Then try closing and opening it.
If there is no power at all (i.e. no green light on the unit and the drive won't close), then it could be a loose power cable inside the computer. Open up the computer and check inside to see if the power cable to the drive (the one with a white connector on the end and 4 pins) is loose. If it is, try pushing it back into place to see if that resolves the issue.

I read a lot about this shit which is sony crx230. I have the same problem. I promised my friend that I will find out how to solve his problem with this cdrw. I know now why he got this box for free. It's cheaper to buy new cdrw with Nero oem version. |

Puchased one new still in box the packaging wasn't even open for $9.00. Has the disc and booklet still sealed. Haven't begun to hook it up as yet. Was wanting to know if it will operate on Windows Vista. The disc will that have the drivers on the disc when downloading. |
