windows 2003 server shuts down

my windows 2003 server keeps shutting itself down automatically every 1 hour 42 min...at least that is what i have timed it at the last 3 times...i was wondering if anyone knew why it was doing this...could it have something to do with sql server developer edition...or a setting in server 2003??...this really makes for an unreliable server...thnx

RE: windows 2003 server shuts down

yes i have figured it out...what was happening was that setup had not completly finished configuring server...so what you have to do is make sure that you are hooked into a network through a hub...put the server cd in the computer...run setup...it will ask you for network settings...finish running that and it fixed it for me...the error is actually there because the server has to be set up as primary domain controller...and this is done when you run setup again...hope this helps...

RE: windows 2003 server shuts down

This article does not intend to provide a migration solution. However, if you use the steps in this article to join an existing domain that already contains an SBS 2003 computer or an SBS 2000 computer, you will have to demote the existing SBS server by manually running Dcpromo.exe to remove the computer from the domain. This retirement process must occur within 7 days of adding the new SBS 2003 computer to the domain or the new SBS 2003 computer may display warnings and shut down periodically.

RE: windows 2003 server shuts down

Welcome to M$ He!!. That's a Marketing Company that should have stayed away from selling software. Then again, I wouldn't want them in the car business either.

It's another dirty trick from M$ in an effort to keep their software legit. I find it appawling that they didn't take into consideration when you are demoting an SBS server and removing all components, leaving it as a simple member or stand alone server. Instead, they slam you with a time limit.

The secret lies with the C:\WINDOWS\system32\sbscrexe.exe file. This is the culprit that causes the system to shut down. Find a way to disable it from starting up and you will have found how to keep your server from shutting down.

...and that my friends is why I migrated to a Linux Server platfrom...

RE: windows 2003 server shuts down

I have the same issue which started today. We have had this cloned-PC for about 4 years, it
runs 2003Server perfectly. Today i went in and moved some folders around inside a shared
directory in order to clean up our file server and at some point I did delete a User Account in
the Users & Groups module. The user is no longer used by anyone on the network. It was
originally used by all computers on the network to access a VFP application on the server but
for security reasons we added an individual User Account per machine on the network.

That user had apparently been used once on the actual server in order to log into windows,
so it had its own configuration in Documents & Settings.

Now the server seems to shutdown every 55 minutes. No Application or System Event that I
can see is causing the shutdown. The computer seems to shut down as if someone told it to
do so; it begins closing apps, then saves any settings as usual and shuts down.
