cd writer

i am about to buy an internal cd writer ,now i know all cd-rw's are 5 1/4 inch but i have measured my free drive bay and it is 5 3/4 inch is this right or am i just doing something wrong.

I don't see how this could be possible. All computers come with two sizes of drive bay's (3 1/2" and 5 1/4"). Hence, I presume you are doing something wrong. If you already have a CD-Rom drive installed, the size of your bay is obviously 5 1/4", or it wouldn't fit either.

Make sure you are measuring only the size of the actual bay, and not the case that surrounds it. It may also be possible, though very unlikely, that your drives are mounted on rails so that they can fit inside a 5 3/4" drive.
