I have a new sound card but no sound???

How can I correct this problem I have a new sound card but can't get any sound.
Robin on March 11, 2005
RE: I have a new sound card but no sound???

Hey there Lisa...

double click the Volume icon from the menu bar neer the clock. and check that the volume thingi is high and there is no mute button checked. If it's not present at all go to the following.

1st of all U'll have to make sure that the soud
Blaster is on, and check up if the switch of ur Soundblasters from the back of the pc, is In the right whole... cause there r 3...

Next check if your sound card's driver is installed, or recognised by your computer.

To do so, U'll do the following: Right click by the mouse on My Computer ---> Properties ---> Hardware---> Device manager.

U'll see that there is a bunch of drivers. One of which should be "Sound and Video Controler"

If there is no Exclamation or question Mark there
It means ur sound card is recognized by the computer.

If the driver is showing a ? or !
U'll have to right click it and update it, by the sound driver CD which comes with ur sound card box...

to do so,right click on the ? ---> Update Driver---> Advanced --->Next--->Include location in the search ---> Brouse ---> (brouse to Driver cd find Driver(folder) select the windows version u have WinXP)--->OK --->Next---> (U'll read that it has been updated...) restart ur computer. U should hear the sound.

Note: this has been explained for a winXP OS. In case ur using it on win98 or ME it differs a little bit.

Let me know what happens with u Lis. :)

RE: I have a new sound card but no sound???

Well i dont have a NEW sound card, but my sound has completely STOPPED! ive checked in Device Manager, and everythings fine in the Sound section. Also the Volume Controls/Speaker settings are COMPLETELY fine, and working properly.
My speakers also dont make the "pop" sound that they usually do when they're turned on...... which is weird. SO PLEASE HELP ME! Im hoping for my sound to work before Christmas, lol.xo

RE: No Sound

Hi

I lost my sound from working one day to nothing the next and the only thing I had done to the pc was run a couple of spyware progs....very frustrating!!

After a lot of checking of the audio settings I found the problem a check in a box, which by the way I didn't place there.

So if anyone has a similar problem to mine here is where the check was:

Start button, all programmes, accessories, entertainment, volume control, advanced at the bottom of this window you will see "other controls" with a box saying "1 digital output only" this had a check in it and as soon as I took it out.... I was blasted with music literally as I had my volume turned to max!

Hope this is of use to someone.

RE: I have a new sound card but no sound???

most probable culprits are, 1. check speaker volume. 2. check audio jack properly connected. 3 re install audio drivers.

that should help you.

no sound...

I installed a new power supply, and now my computer has no sound. I reinstalled the drivers. I am using my onboard sound card. My case has a front sound port that hooks into a jumper on my motherboard, and neither the onboard sound, or the jumper sound work. I am using old speakers, but to check if it was the speakers, i plugged in headphones that i know work, and it still didn't work. This leads me to believe it is a software problem and not a hardware, but I don't know anything about software.

PLEASE HELP ME

I wanted to format it back to windows XP.
I found the ATI driver online cause I know the type of my graphic card but can't find the type of the sound card, All I have about it is a stick on the laptop that tells info about its devices and it says Dolby Digital, so i searched for dolby digital sond card driver and found no maches for the type.

RE: I reformated my pc..

i reformat my pc but now theres no sound. windows media player keep saying this "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. RE: I have a new sound card but no sound???

Hi Karlo,

It sounds like you might need to install a driver for your sound card. If there was an installation disk that came with your sound card, pop that into your computer and run the installation file on the CD. If not, you can try looking for a driver for your sound card on the manufacturers website. You could also try running the "Add New Hardware" wizard which is accessible from the windows Control Panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel) to see if it will detect and install your sound card automatically for you.

Eric.
