My HL-DT-ST GCC 4481B is generally OK but will not auto-run or read one particular CD, thought to be a driver problem. Where can I download latest driver for above hardware?

Since having Windows Updates downloaded, I've been unable to use my RW/DVD drive (HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B). The drivers were pre-installed.
The following appears when following trouble shoot suggestions: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
My computer knowledge can best be described as Novice, please help.

my cd/dvd rw drive recognizes only system CDs or CDs shiped with the manufacturer such as drivers or installation CDs and not other CDs of mine Pls Pls find out some solutions |

My computer was custom built (made from parts). When I bought it (used), the Hitachi HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B had no apparent problems, according to the device manager. But when I tried to burn a standard cd-r, it said I didn't have a disc in the drive. I was looking through this forum in order to find a (driver) solution, but instead came upon a firmware update (since many of the entries said that Windows XP service pack 3 should have no problem, driver wise. So, the problem is, the firmware was not an exact match, but I ran it anyway. Now, when I look at the device properties, it sees the drive as a standard CD-Drive. Now I'm REALLY up a creek.. Can anyone help me? |

I DIDN'T SEE AN ANSWER FOR THIS QUERY, BUT IT IS AS IF I WOULD HAVE WRITTEN. Have used all local resources including the "Geek Squad" HELP!! (richfoss@localnet.com): "windows can't load device driver for HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
