having sameproblem brand new disks NO read please insert disk error firmware from hp.com says incompatable hardware i put diskin and out around the 20th time it reads the disk |

Hi I have the same problem. It worked before I tried using a new CD and it doesn't work, it ask to insert the cd even though its in there

I recently bought a DVD games from Saudi Arabia and i already tested it there and it's working and i manage to install it on other people's computer. After arriving here in the philippines i tried it in my computer and my DVD Combo Cannot read it.
Can anybody help me with this problem? I have tried installing PowerDVD 4.0 and tried other DVD and my Combo still cannot read any of the DVD's. |

I reinstalled XP home and now the cd is there. the drivers are fine
but i get the "Please insert a disk into drive..." message. The links
to microsoft articles do not apply to this issue. I beleive it may be
an IDE issue but just like everyone else are stumped. |

I tried this CD-ROM under XP in different machines and the result is the same as mentioned before ("NO CD...", totally blocks the system, ...).
I tried under Win98SE and it works excelent. Under Linux/Knoppix too.
I didn't try XP driver yet, but I will. |

I experienced this problem not only with this drive but also with my second drive which is a plextor. I updated it´s firmware from Plextor´s website and it is ok now, so I tried the same with the HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8523B which is a LG electronics drive.

If you can´t follow that link search for
GCR-8523B at LG Electronics
The above link provides driver download for Win Xp but also other platforms, it is in fact a firmware update.
If you have more than one drive don´t forget to select the right drive in the update menu that will open when you doubleclick the downloaded file.
After firmware update you uninstall the old drivers and let Win XP find the new hardware.
(with several reboots in between:)
This worked for me....hope it will for you
By the way: like some of you mentioned before: the problems occured when Windows automatically updated XP....microsoft as we know it...
What firmware updates don´t solve is that older programs which ran ok on XP suddenly don´t work any more with these mysterious Winupdates....

sorry but i´m triyin to find the driver to this unit. i delete the unit`s driver accidentaly and the pc it`s in my work and i haven`t internet access and i have to find it in other place and try to install again in ny work. thanks if your can help me, and i relly sorry about my english, because it`s not perfect. |
