RE: javatris

Brian,

Thanks for your interest in Javatris. Music is definitely available and you should be able to hear it when the "Music" box is checked in the options menu. Check your windows volume settings by double clicking on the little yellow speaker icon that resides in your system tray (bottom right of your screen) and make sure the "MIDI Volume" slider is high. If it is too low, slide it upwards.

If this does not fix the problem, try running a MIDI file from outside of Javatris. You can do this by going to Javatris' music folder, which is located in the folder to which you installed Javatris, and double clicking on one of the files that end with a *.mid extension. If you hear music, then the problem is within Javatris, if not, it is a system problem.

If it is a system problem, you should check the Windows Multimedia control panel (located in the System Control Panel i.e. Start>Settings>Control Panel) and make sure that under "MIDI Music Playback" there is a device selected and that it is working (to see if it is working, check the Device Manager which is located in the System Control Panel and make sure there are no yellow exclamation marks beside any of the sound devices). If one of your sound devices has a yellow exclamation mark beside it, try consulting your sound card (or motherboard if you have integrated sound) manual or reinstalling your sound card drivers.

If the problem is with Javatris, you can try dowloading installing a new Java Sound API Soundbank (a collection of all the instruments which, collectively, provide the music you will hear).

You may download the "deluxe" sound bank directly from Sun Microsystems by visiting the following web page: http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/sound/soundbanks.html

Once you have downloaded the sound bank, you may install it by following the instructions provided on that page (located just below the download instructions).

Please let me know if this works, and what the problem was (if you find a solution). If this does not work, let me know and I will continue to attept to solve this problem. Your valuable feedback will allow me to better answer questions from other users,

Thanks,

Eric Georgieff
