aaarrrrrgghhh,why cant i get my writer to work! ! !
i cant get my writer to write since i put it into a new system,it reads ok though??
i need some ideas guys.
ive checked the things i can think of and have run out of ideas,ive tried nero,clonecd,adaptec and xp media player
so its gotta be the hardware setup,im using the win xp drivers for the writer(the only drivers i can find)
i had the same problems using win 98
my system is-
kt7 raid mobo
1gig athlon
creative 12x dvd/cd
lg 8042b writer
768meg ram

i tried my 8042b in my other pc and it still didn't work

for the love of god!!!! i can't find the win 98 drivers for the 8042b.... i hadn't received any discs from comp usa when i bought my comp and this writer came stock... i can get drivers for about all the other writers, but no help here. reads but doesn't write. LG doesn't have my approval anymore. does anyone out there have the drivers that they can copy? |

I got the same problem but my DVD writer is is NEC 2500D. It read OK but not write to it.
My system is P4, 512MB, 200GB, DVD xcopy PLatinum version.
I use XP driver ( I believe from windows update ). Does any body know how this DVD writer goes with DVD Xcopy platinum. I do not know what may cause this problem. I am very appreciated your advice and help. |

I have a LG 8041b DVD writer with the same problem: it does not write any DVD's anymore, and it doesn't read RW DVDs .I've updated the firmware (a104), still nothing. What is the problem ? Can anyonne help me ?

i had to format my hard drive...i can't find the driver disk for my burner...my computer reads the burner as a cd rom...in the device manager it says "no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device. to update the driver files for this device, click Update Driver." God i wish it was that easy...i can't find anything that works...Help me if ya can...thanks,

I have GSA-4082B DVD Writer and had problems with it, didn't read and write but now I don't have any problems. I chage to WinXP and install the Roxio 6.0 or 7.0, nero 6.3, dvd shrink and the drivers from the cd of LG. if some one need the drivers I can send You by email.

Apparently an option has to be changed for CD or DVD writing due to the file system used.
But you then loose the ability to write to the drive thru of the OS, you must use 3rd party software. |

I have a similar problem with Lite-On drives. I had tested two DVD-RW (SOHW1633S & SOHW1213) in two computers with a total of three operating systems (Win98, Win2000, WinXP) and both burners work the same way. I could burn only ONE DVD and then no more. All other tries looks fine until verification process is in progress. It reports CRC-fail. I tried two different brands of DVD-RW with no success. So far I have only tried the burning program included with the drive (Nero), but I have used Nero before without problems. Still it worked fine on the very first DVD. |

My CDROM will read but will not write or copy to a new disk. I purchased a new Eide CD-RW+DVD drive and it acts the same way. my computer says the CDROM is working OK.

I had a CD writer that worked for years under Win98SE; but now suddenly I can stillread from it but not write to it.
I installed a new Sony CRX230ED CD-R/RW, but it has the same problem - Windows says it is working perfectly, but Nero or Easy CD report no CD writer present.
Has anyone cracked this one yet? |

DAMN it!
My writer has the exact same problem as all of yours! I have the GSA-4082B and it use to read and write, but now nothing.
I reinstalled windows XP pro, and nothing... nadda, still same problem! Can someone please send me the driver to my email address, perhaps this will solve the problem, but I sincerely doubt it.
I have contacted LG and voiced my.. annoyance with my burner and the difficulties that it is causing me. They haven't responded yet, but they better or I'll never buy a LG product again. |

I've read the messages above and am also suffering with problems with my GSA-4082B writer. I'm not impressed with LG, as their product is crap. Simple as that really. I've tried DVD X Copy, Nero 6, 1click DVD and many more but to no avail. I've upgraded the bios but now the drive is in a permanent state of 'idle'. When it did work, it would only write 75% of a DVD and then the movie locks out. Zero help from LG support as expected. Time to buy a Samsung, methinks....Any ideas, anyone? |

I just wanted u to know that i had a problem with my BTC 16x double layer writer (1016m).
It wrote dvd's that i couldn't read in any way with any pc ( i tried about 10 pc's ).
I solved it by updating my firmware.

I formatted my computer and installed windows XP
my computer is Compaq Presario 5000
The cd-rw is LG CD-RW CED-8120B, i installed the ADAPTEC installation cd and it prompts that the driver is not supported.
I installed Nero 6 and when i tried to write a cd it failed.
Is Nero 6 compatible with LG CD-RW CED-8120B?

My DVDRW is LiteOn SOHW 832S. It worked perfectly until I upgraded the firmware from version E to Version G. Now it will read but won't write. Worse, it freezes the entire system when I attempt to write to it. No response so far from LiteOn. It gives me some comfort -- not much, but some -- to see so many having the same problem. |

My dvd/cd rom was working fine until I reinstalled windows xp pro.
There are no conflicts in the device manager and it says the device is working properly.
I updated the firmware and it still will not read or write ANY cd's or dvd's.
It blinks a few times and nothing.
When I try to open a cd from my computer..it says insert a disk....there is a disk there lol
ANY help would be appricated :) |

Was having a similar problem with my CD burner.
The following surprising fixed the "can read CDs but not write" issue.
Under My Computer, CD Drive, right click for properties, choose AutoPlay, from the drop down choose Blank CD, then tell it what you want it to do. I chose Open writeable CD Folder using windows explorer. And finally I can burn CDs again.
Hope this helps someone else. |

I have the exact same problem as the rest of you with the LG GSA-4082B except it is my friends computer, he transported the PC*with writer* in it about 120 kilometres, I am thinking the laser could have been jarred or something, I have exhausted my resources to no avail, I know for sure, I am glad I bought my Samsung for my PC...all I have to say in the end is I will never buy an LG product again based on this experience alone. And no one else should either based on their product support and service. |

My 4082b burns DVDs with no problem, but grenades music CDs with no explanation for the error (that's using XP, Nero, or Roxio). I guess the rational thing to do would be to buy a decent CD burner (this one would only burn music CDs at 24x anyway); I had an LG 52x CD burner in one of my last machines and it worked flawlessly...of course that would also mean I'll have to get a PCI IDE adapter. D'OH! |

Hey all! Can any of you help me? I have a samsung burner, it's a cd-r/w drive. I don't know what version. Anyway, outa nowhere, it just started not burning. Everytime I use a disc and I've tried several different ones, I get this recording error: There was a problem writing to the disc. All the discs are clean. I use sonic record now. I have also tried windows media player and when i copy something it says windows media can not copy the files, and so now, nothing will burn. I don't know what to do, and am proabably gonna have to redo my whole system do to spyware crud, and now, I can't back up any of my music or emails or nothing. Any help is appreciated. I've tried everything. I can only restore my computer back to so far with my xp home, cuase somehow some restore point got corrupted so I can't go back to like the second or farther. Sucky... thanks. |

I don't know about anyone else, but I checked in Services and the IMAPI service was running...
I'm starting to wonder if LG just released a bad lot (or 2, or 3) of burners and either doesn't know about it or doesn't *want* to know about it. As for me, I got a LiteOn 52x32x52 CD burner and said the hell with it; it's faster than the DVD burner for CDs anyway (the LG was only good for 24x if I remember right). I'm out US$30 but it worked right out of the box, and later on that night I burned a DVD on the LG with no issues whatsoever; like I said, my LG was only having problems with CDs which I thought was odd, but then I remembered that once upon a time it was a fairly common occurrence (something having to do with beam-width). |

My GSA-4082B can read/write CDs, can read DVDs (e.g. games) but does not recognize blank DVDs. It used to recognize them and every so often does so again but in general it does not. This has nothing to do with the software I am using to burn. I don't get that far.

thanks brian, i found mine was stopped, thought my old dvd burner was bad, bought new one having problems burning but could read.fixed problem. no i got two dvd burners. wish i'd read this sooner. |
