RE: cdrw-cdrom drivers dissapeared from windows xp

I lost my CDROM drives when a trojan adware attacked my computer. It turns out during the attack a Win32.Daqa. F trojan was imbeding itself in my computer. During this time my MS antispy program along with CA EZ antivirus programms were attempting to isolate and distory the dirty little thing. After I finaly resolved all of the programs request to clean. I noticed that I still had a new folders in my windows directory I'd never seen before, C:\windows\bundles. I deleted "Bundles" and started to rescan my computer for any reoccurances, and when I was done my CDROM drives were no longer functioning. I even attempt to perform a restore, back one day and that failed. I removed and reinstalled the drivers, (per MS Help suggested) with success.

Thank you, this has resolved this problem! ;-)

I like so many others were just about to format C:. When something told me, I couldn't be the only one with this problem.

At first I was not understand that I should only del the Upper and Lower filters, I was attempting to delete the entire key name. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Buy the way my XP Reg had (2) controlsets. Perhaps I'm unique.

Thank you again O XP master.

RE: cdrw-cdrom drivers dissapeared from windows xp

Hi, I had the same problem, tried all the fixes in here, but no help. At last I thought: why not try to yank the whole thing out, boot, and put it in again?

when I opened the PC to do this i found that the IDE-Cable had fallen out...

RE: cdrw-cdrom drivers dissapeared from windows xp

I have kind of the same problem... bios sees the dvd/cd drive, XP does not. If I go to device manager I can add the drive and it works for a while.

After a short time (15-45 minutes) it quits working.

Then I have to reboot XP and repeat the adding of the drive to get it to work.

Tried the deleting the upper and lower filters and that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Ok, Here's the fix.

If you know for sure that the CD/DVD drive is working then:

Download and run this script.
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs

You can check it out before running it by right-clicking the file and choosing edit to read it.

The script will set your registry the way it shoud be. Don't reboot yet.

Go into the device manager and uninstall the IDE controller.

Download and install the latest motherboard chipset drivers.

Now Reboot. Everything will work... Hopefully. This is how I finally got my missing CD/DVD RW back.

RE: cdrw-cdrom cannot read post xp

Dan,

I bought an old HP Pavillion, model HP 8560c at a yard sale. The previous owner had just loaded Windows XP but said he did not have the original HP recovery CD. It does not matter since the internal CD-RW cannot see any files.

1) The drive spins and behaves as if all the hardware is functional. LED light, flash, and Windows shows the disk loading icon when the drive attempts to read files. The file lists shows up blank, yet no error messages are reported by Windows.

2) I have also installed a normal CD-R that works on very other PC and I also tried an autoplay CD. No luck.

3) I have a drive letter for both the CD-RW and the Read only DVD. The DVD works fine, but it only reads DVD or data DVD's. DVD ROM does not seem to read regular CD's. The DVD ROM will read data DVD's.

4) The drivers are all in and no errors are reported by Device Manager when examining Properties on this CD-RW drive. Using a disk with valid files, no files will "Mount" as on other CD-RW or CD-ROM on my newer computers.

5) I am puzzled by the CD-RW drive letter starts with drive M:, the DVD is drive N:, but there are no other drives after C: hard drive. There is the usual A: floppy drive.

6) I also examined the BIOS and it shows no problem with the CD-RW.

I understand the drivers are all build-in the Windows XP SP2. Windows Explorer and My Computer show drive letters but no files can be read in from finalized CD's, or any working CD's.

I am trying to create emergency restore CD's but the OP sys keeps asking me to install a disk even after I install a blank one.

I wish to thank anyone who can provide me with some guidance.

Thanks!

Bumalmare.

Update on above. Just installed divx. The driver added *not*disclosed*in*license*and*illegal* seems to have fixed it. All the other drivers are the same version, except added driver PxHelp20.sys from Sonic Solutions. Usually Help is not a great file to have around... especially in IE, but what about this? Is there away to remove this without killing the drive again? I previously had reinstalled drivers, updated everything and deleted the upper/lower filters. Now if I can get rid of the extra junk....

After hours... and I do mean HOURS ... of beating my head against the wall attempting to find a driver for two DVD drives on my WinXP Pro machine (the computer has been running in its current configuration for years but all of a sudden ... no more optical drives) I read the posts here, downloaded the Cleanpack.zip from Nero, ran the registry fix, rebooted, and voile... the drives magically reappeared.

I have used (and yes, actually PAID FOR) Nero software for years. This fix is just brilliant!!

Thank you.

RE: cdrw-cdrom drivers dissapeared from windows xp

I have a HP 5520US laptop, running XP Pro. DVD drive does not show up on my computer, and does not show up on the device manager. Frequently,(but NOT always or even most of the time) when I reboot, the drive shows up on both windows explorer and device manager, but after a time (varies) will disapear from both. I have gone to the register, and I do not seem to have the upper and lower limit filters mentioned on this forum. Drive does show up on Bios, and I have reflashed with the latest bios.

Is there a way for me to reload the drivers for my dvd drive. it is a HL-DT-SF dvdram gsa 4084N

Any help with this problem would be gratefully received!

Facing somewhat similar problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with a TSST DVD-RW TS-L532B. As the drive was not writing out to some CD-Rs, I upgraded its firmware from DE03 to DE04. The drive thereafter stopped reading most of the CD-ROMs it earlier was able to open (including Windows XP install CD).

I have tried the following steps with no luck:
1. Deleted UpperFilters and LowerFilters from registry
2. Used cleanpack.zip from Nero.com
3. Uninstalled and re-installled secondary IDE channel
4. Unseated and reseated the hard-disk

Short of re-installing XP, I have tried most of the suggested methods. Currently "scf /scannow" is under progress. Are their any other suggestions I can try out :(
ankitj on September 21, 2007
Additional info

The drive is able to open certain type of DVD-Rs. However, its still opening the CD-ROMs it earlier was able to access.

I even looked at dougknox solution. Zilch effect!

Somebody help!

Hopefuly someone can answer this: 'Sonic Record Now 7' has been used regularly and succesfully on my Vista laptop for almost 12 months. All of a sudden it states "A siutable drive was not detected".
Thing is, this drive (SSM 5815S) works with Nero, Intervideo Win DVD 5 and WMPlayer (For all other burning software too)
As I enjoy the simplicity and speed of Sonic....any ideas?

well.. sll this is great, but im betting it has to deal with pre-assembled OEM series laptops (acer aspire uses this drive...) but my problem genuinely needs the drivers for this driv as this system was built by me, if someone actually has the link to the drivers, then that will be of most help (seeing as the drivers don't appear to be in the xp cd, they wern't in my system)

Hitachi HL-DT-ST DVD/CD Rom GDR-8163B & HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B, Win XP SP3. Dell Dim 4700/4Mb (all applicable downloads/drivers applied). Device Manager returns Error code 39 (can't find/corrupted driver). All critical/hotfixes applied. Have tried MS Troubleshooter, Add/delete Hardware Wizard w/o success. Drives OK as they can be accessed via manual boot, but not recognized in XP. Unplugged and removed/reseated power & ribbon cables without success.
Cannot run Safe Mode as system hangs when reaching agpCPQ.sys.
Have not re-installed XP as (per MS) must uninstall IE 7 first, plus reapply SP3 plus all other updates.
