Windows 95 won't boot.

Software related problem
Question sent August 7, 1999

Q.When booting up Windows 95, I pressed F8, which gave me a menu.   I then selected option #8 to boot to the previous version of DOS, but now my computer won't boot.  Please help!
A.You discovered a dangerous glitch that affects Windows 95 OSR 2 (OEM Service Release 2).  Although Microsoft admits this is a bug, they say the reason your computer won't boot afterwards is because since Windows 95 OSR 2 is a version of Windows 95 designed to run only on new PC's, DOS wouldn't have been installed previously.  Therefore booting to DOS will cause your computer to hang the next time you reboot it.  To solve this problem, just boot from a Windows 95 Startup Disk, and type "Sys C:" (without the quotes) at the prompt.  Next time you reboot everything should be fine.  If you hadn't created a Windows 95 Startup Disk, you can create one from another computer by inserting a blank 3 1/2 inch diskette in your drive, double-clicking on My Computer, then double-clicking on Control Panels, then on Add/Remove Programs.  You will then see a tab called "Startup Disk".   Click on it, and then on the button called "Create Disk" to begin creating the Windows 95 boot disk.
