I'm a owner of a DELL demension desktop
My CD-RW (HL-DT-ST GCE 8481B ) doesn't work in my magix- MP3-program. The program is working without any problems but only the step, burning the disk doesn't work. No problems accure at the moment of burning but after the burning-routine, checking the disk, there is no data stored, and the disk is no longer accessable.
The problem could be the driver (MAGIX FAQ)
So, I am looking for the latest driver (update-version?).

i'm having similiar problems like the guys above. i've installed this drive in my pc . it shows up in the device manager but when trying to burn cd's, the drive isn't recognized. or rather the software says "divice not connected." any feedback would be appreciated. |

I seem to have the same problem as a few mentioned here. My cd drives are not shown in the explorer buy are in the device manager. I tried to uninstall them and let them re-install on startup but that doesn't fix it. Is this a hardware or software problem? I think it may be that the registry got corrupted somehow. Can that be fixed? Thanks in advance. |

I've had similar problems with this drive. When i insert a cd into the drive on an xp prof pc (brand new HP) it causes the pc to crash, i have to restart the pc and this cures the prob. On other pcs with diff motherboards the drive works perfectly with the latest version of nero 6. I have noticed on the web that there is new firmware to run this drive. |

I own a dell dimension 2350 with this cd burner. Everytime i try to burn a cd it makes a long loud struggling sound then just cancels the process followed by an unknown error which is usually numbered 4000?

FIRST UP SOME OF YOU HAVE MENTIONED LOSING YOUR DRIVE AFTER UPGRADING TO WIN XP - THAT MEANS YOU DIDN'T FOLLOW THE MULTIPLE INSTRUCTIONS TO UPGRADE ALL YOUR DRIVERS PRIOR TO INSTALL (TSK, TSK). THE GSE - 8481B ORIGINALLY RAN OFF A DOS BASED DRIVER WHICH WAS FINE IN WINDOWS 95 AND 98 BUT LARGELY USELESS IN XP BUT IT WILL OF COURSE STILL LOAD - JUST NOT OPERATE. UPDATING THE DRIVER USING EITHER OF TWO VERSIONS (the first one is the latest version) SHOULD HELP BUT IN SOME CASES WON'T MAKE ONE TINY BIT OF DIFFERENCE UNLESS YOU UPDATE YOUR BIOS TO WIN XP STANDARD AS WELL - IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS SEEK HELP.
BEFORE YOU LOAD THE DRIVER PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU UNLOAD THE OLD DRIVER FIRST, IF I WAS NASTY AND UNSCRUPULOUS I COULD MAKE A REASONABLE LIVING RIPPING PEOPLE OFF WHO BRING COMPUTERS TO ME THAT ARE COMPLETELY 'STUFFED' THAT I 'UNSTUFF' BY REMOVING OLD DRIVERS AND FIXING IRQ CONFLICTS.

My computers cd-rw drive (as subject line above)is not working. I get the attached message when I right click on it in device manager:
"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

My DVD player drive is not responding in any way and has diappeared from My Cpmuter drives listing. In device manager I get the following message when I click on the device:
