Ever since I bumped into my CD ROM disc tray my drive wont open or close and every time i try opening nero it says COM/OLE errors make sure ROM is installed.but I know its installed and I think it has power cause when I open the tray with a knife when i push the button for it to close the green light blinks but does not close so please help since Im desperate |

if you want to open your cd-drive without the button on the drive you could try this:
get a peperclip make sure it's a straight line.
then somewhere on the drive you will see a tiny hole just alrge enough for you paperclip to pass through.
then you just have to puss a little and voila it opens |

i dont want the tray to break. i tried minimal force but i am afraid that it will break.the green light goes on and it clicks as though it opens but it just wont open.

I have 2 drives.
I have a cd in the bottom drive and it won't open
There is no hole for a paper clip
The top drive door opens and closes ok |

my cd trays wonty open, i can use a paper clip to open them, but they still dont work. they will open and close b4 windows loads up, but once it does, they stop working... |

I have just had a cd explode and jammed my cd drive open when it ejected. In order to close it I followed these steps:
1. Remove drive and then cover (this will usually make the warrenty void)
2. check that all the gears are not jammed (you may be able to move the tray a little and see the gears turn.
3. If you look to the left on the underside of the tray there should be two flanges that snake in parallel with the front of the drive near the end of the tray. Now look into the drive to the left and under the tray and look for a lever connected to the component that moves the disc motor and laser up into position. This lever should run inbetween the flanges on the tray.
4. If this is the case then you have to remove the tray from the drive. (mine had two teath stopping it but they can be pushed back with a screw driver)
5. move the lever into position so when you slide the tray back in it goes in the slot on the tray.
6. Assemble the case and test the drive!
Notes: you may have to remove the plate with the disc motor on to get the tray out or force the tray out while holding the plate down. The gears don't need to be aligned and the band to the tray motor doesn't need to be taken off.

2. When my CD tray was working, all i wanted to do was copy the files that I had copied from my laptop computer onto this disk and to transfer all of the contents into my office desktop computer. The CD contains several images. |

Okay, so I used the paperclip, pushed it through the hole, the cd tray came out, I got my CD back... BUT THE TRAY WON"T OPEN AND CLOSE NORMALLY. It's like the button is broken or something, but it's not! Anyone got any ideas? |

i was readin these posts tonight cus my dvd/video combo tray has stayed open for a few months now. My daughter originally put hair slides in there and her dad had tried hookin them out. I removed the case and found one hiding hair slide however the tray would respond to open but not follow though with close or load.
I was checking the alignment of the tray and what it connects to for the last 3 hours.
When its fully inside forcably was the only way to get it in, i held the drive tray and squeezed against the part underneath . This miraculously seemed to be the thing that worked. I tested after this little manouver and it opens, closes and loads and plays as new.
now my only problem is how to fix on the door hatch that seals the tray. Seems a part has broken off when they removed the hair clips ! annoyin but at least it works again.

the only thing id say is if u cant find or afford anyone to do it for u and u hav no warrantly then ull hav to take it apart urself and check the alignment.
this is normally the main reason is the tray has been knocked while open the alignment cudt be out either sideways or vertically.

if you cant find a hole below your cd tray: UR NOT LOOKING HARD ENOUGH! its a tiny, tiny hole BENEATH the disk drive and with an unravelled paper clip stuck in it, it should open easily. |

My cd/rom tray would not close and would always pop out again...the led light was working fine too so it wasn't a power problem.
A short-term fix to at least read your cd's on your computer is to hold the tray closed whilst pressing the eject button. The tray should remain closed and yuor computer will read the cd.
Long term, get it to a shop to look at it or buy another drive. |

Last week had no problems at all. The computer is never moved. So there have been no knocks to my CD tray or likewise. The last CD that was not a problem was AOL 5. Since then have not been able to load any CD. Also once a CD is in the tray, the only way I have been able to get it out. Is to restart then hit the eject button. Can anyone help me please? |

I have a different problem.
When the CD drive is empty, the tray not opening except by the paper clip. But when a CD is inserted, the tray can be opened or closed normally with the eject button.
Anyone has explanation for this?

Hi, I bumped my cdr disk and now it won't open. I tried the paperclip idea which worked on my dvd drive thats above fine. But nothing happened when trying it on the cdr drive. When pushing eject you can hear it trying to work and see the light but I think the cd that's in there might be jammed. What should I do? I am a novice at repairs but really dont want to drop it off at one of the chain stores just so they can drop a new drive in it. Thanks! |

Ok heres my problem. My cd drive will not open, or respond and my light stays on sometimes the light is green other times red. I have a cd in the drive. When you push the tray open/close button, if the tray will not open/close, it means there is a tray mis alignment or jam. you can open the tray using a paper clip and need to get it repaired.
