Might be of use but I have just had same problem with tray not opening due to a jammed disc. I prised of the flat front to the CD tray (it only clips on) this enabled me to get to the flat tray and prise it open from underneath. Be gentle! |

hey my dvd rom tray is working fine and has the green light and the discs are reading and everything... but my cd rom tray will not open and the light doesnt come on and there is no power at all... i used the paper clip to get it open and it worked... but when i close it, it wont read anything...i need to know how to fix this please!!! |

Hi im having trouble use the cd drive the green light is on tryed to eject ubt it doesnt work it doesnt even make a sound that its trying to open when i go to computer and highlight cd driver (E) and click Eject it says "Cd Driver is currently in use save any open files on this disc,and then close the files or programs using the files before trying again. if u choose to continue,the files will b closed,wich may cause data to be lost." i have no cd in there and when i press continue same thing pops up can some 1 help me with this problem. |

for those of you who have a laptop and the paperclip method wont work or you cant find the hole you might be missing. i found a liitle metal lever like an old hatch hook beside the eject button(without cd drive casing) and pressed it and it popped out. I find out also that mind was jamming due to the plastic peice that sends the information was binding up and making less room |

...I need the DVD drive to work for a disc, but when i tried the paperclip thing, it opened, thats not the problem, when i closed it it didnt do anything, didnt try to read the disc at all

Here is the scenic route I have to take on my defective tray (or worn out button). The light blinks but when I push the button it won't open: if a paper clip fix doesn't open it, and you know that your drive is OK internally, go to your burner drive and try different commands as if a disk is inside. Your computer may open the tray after tasks are refused. (You may have to experiment with various tasks or with various burn programs.) Be sure to write down what works. To continue to open, use the aforementioned technique, then finalize your new, burned disk (if it doesn't do so automatically). After finalization, your computer will tell your tray to open automatically. It will open automatically as long as there is no mechanical jam. If it tries to open and can't, you probably have an alignment problem. Additional note: once you figure out how to open your tray, keep a scrap CD inside the tray to enable you to open the tray next time by using the finalization method. If it won't open because the disk has already been finalized, try another command. The finalization method works for me consistently. |

My nc6220 tray wouldn't open because I didn't seat the CD securely enough onto the tray before I closed it. The paper clip worked perfectly. Thanks. |

Mine won't open at all. I tried the paperclip thing, and it never worked. I put it in all the way through and it feels like I'm pushing it against a hard plastic wall rather than a button.

My tray is having issues. I accidentally left a DVD in the drive for over three months. When I tried to eject it to put a CD with music into it, it made the motor sound, then said that there was an error ejecting it. When I hit the eject button again, it thought the drive had been shut and started the movie.
There is no paperclip area. Any other bright ideas that I can try? My mom will be pissed if she finds I messed it up. D: |

I have a dell desktop and for a while my disk tray would get stuck opening and closing.I just recently took it out and found out why.There was a broke cd in it.I cleaned it out,but when I tried to see if it would work,the tray wouldnt open all the way,so I got a knife and kept pushing the button and when the tray came out some,I think I pulled it out to far,Now the disk tray is just hanging out.When I push the button,the motor turn and I hear clicks but the disk tray will not go back in.Can this be fix or do I need to replace it?Thanks |

I've tried everything suggested here. I did find one little hole right under the right side of the tray. However when I pole something in thta hole there doesn't seem to be anything in there to push on. I got a clip in about 2 inches, and still no resistance against it inside the hole. WTH folks? What can I do now.
If I sound frustrated it's because I am. Fortunately I have an External DVD/CD Player Recorder that I can use, but it ties up one of my USB plugs to use it which on this old Dell are limited to 4 to start with. I
s there any kind of a multiple USB port stripe like a power strip that works well? |

Put the paper clip in a little , and push to the side , that's what worked for me . but I
don't want to have to do that EVERY time to open it :( 5:343 8* ,9 /433, "8/:5 b the
strip of paper thing under where the disk goes gets caught & is now wrinkled .... do I
need to get a new one ? |
