so me i use this combo DVD/RW. The exact reference is : HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B and the version of my firmware is E106.
This combo has been bought with my PC, a Dell dimension 8400 and i know the vendor is LG Electronics but i can't found a driver or a new firmware version in the LG website or in the website of Dell Support. In a forum of Dell Support some persons say the generic driver provide by windows xp is enough. When i search in google i find 2 pages in LG websites thats reffers models like GCC 4481B but not this exact model :

FYI... This is not the Driver. Standard Window's drivers will support the drive. My previouse post is firmware to upgrade the firmware. |

I have this drive on my Dell Dimension 4700 the driver for it comes under HLDS GCC4481-B HH 48X32 Combo. Ilooked up the HL# under my service code and this is where it took me for the driver. When trying to just look it up under that HL #, well it was impossible, but the service tag route worked. I dont think there is any need for additional drivers, because usually combo drives will be auto recognized by windows.

I have the following CD burner:
HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4481B
It plays CDs, but does not burn. It says that there is no disk inserted when I try to burn. But I have tried numerous disks and it is always the same. Does anyone know what I need to do to get this working? Thanks |

I've seen this before. The "DVD" aspect of the drive is dead/damaged. Get a new DVD burner drive as this one cannot be fixed |

This driver is available at Driverguide.com. Use any company>cd/dvd(for device type)>any os>all drivers and for the keyword use JUST HL-DT-ST-GCC4481B Don't put in cd/dvd for some reason it doesn't come up that way. That WILL get you your driver.

I am also trying to figure out how to get my GCC-4481B to read DVDs. I have found the driver on DriverGuide.com, but when trying to install I keep getting "Update file name is not correct!" What am I doing wrong? I am running an eMachines T2893.

Get it off of Dell's Support website. Here is the link for the drivers. You need to run it after download and it will install correctly on your Dell.

i had a big problem with my compaq hp computer not accessing the cd/dvd drive; i tried reinstalling drivers, did troubleshooting. Nothing worked. As a last resort, i took out the cd/dvd drive from computer and took off the housing by removing four gold phillips screws. I had a little white plastic doohicky fall out along with a very small black screw. I searched endlessly as to where it originally was mounted. I noticed some landmarks on the clip itself. One is the plastic hinge with a spring. 3 others are the screw hole and 2 small platic raised mounting bumps. On the tray assembly on back side there is a metal screw hole and three small recesses for the two bumps on the clip to fit into. I positioned the plastic hing onto a long brass bar that looks like it guides the rolling action of the tray. This long brass rod has a spiral notch in it. I made sure the 2 plastic grooves on the plastic spring loaded hinge rode over this bar. The plastic doohicky piece fits perfectly into its position and the black screw is securely tightened. This worked. My damn drive still works. I think this is an issue that hp needs to fix for everyone who has had problems with it. The only problem, is that my computer is not longer under warranty. Well if fixed it anyway |

ok i took my cd/dvd burner out and took it apart just to see if there was dust inside. no dust. so i put it back together and back onto the dell and it works now!!! wtf odd. so i would say try unplugging the drive then plugging it back in. |

I've tried using dell's tool (R92814.exe which installs the dell_E108.exe update tool) and haven't had any luck. I'm updating the drivers for the GCC-4481B on an eMachine, don't know if that's part of the problem, and it doesn't even list the drive under "Target Drive". Is there anyways I can just download the bloody driver by itself without having to use this ridiculous app? |

It can play dvd with other the Windows Media Player (AVD Media Player). I purchased NERO 7 Essentials and it still wouldn't burn DVDs. I used NERO 5 and it copies CDs with no problem.
