take it drive has just stopped working?
have u checked in device manager or tried to update or rollback the driver? if u go into the "properties" of that drive u will get those options. if not do a google search for the specific driver and download them .

not only did it stopped working...my computer wasn't able to detect the drive!so it doesn't have the options you said. i downloaded a driver but i haven't tried it yet because i think it was a newer version not the old one...im afraid it might permanently damage the drive(the instructions said so)...i think i need the firmware version 1.03...but i just couldn;t find any! |

listen i will search for the driver for u if u like however i need to know all the spec for ur comp. ie the motherboard and chip details , and the name of ur harddrive and cdr drive please. I will do my best to help u but without this information it is almost impossible. |

btw can u also say what operatin system u r using as this makes a difference and is the drive internal or external pls? alternatively try this site for a match and i would recommend installing the latest drivers. Have u done an online scan because it is possible that u hav a virus on the drive ? Please also state what antivirus u r currently using and do an online scan with either trendmicro or panda . Do a google search to find them and do a free online scan first before installing any drivers. ok

well there is nothing wrong with my
HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE 8525B Except i cant get it to burn any faster than 16X downloaded firmware for it and it was the right number and all but said wrong version number so i look on the cd-rw case and it was made for LG by H-L Data storage (hitachi-LG)
a different division, I go to the web site and no sign of any drivers nor any firmware....What a rip off,,any one with the same problem that has found a 1.04 firmware upgrade please e-mail me Crash_@cox.net |

I have HL-DT-ST-CD-RW GCE-8525B (1.03) CD Write which I got along with LG MyPC I bought 2 years back.
When I try to create VCD using Pinnacle Studio AVDV version 9.4.3, I find that the sounds do come but the Video is frozen - I mean it do not move.
Can any one help me on this??
I have windos xp.

This model has problems when connected to the motherboard with 80-pin cable. Change it to standard 40-pin and it should be ok.
Mine couldn't achieve speed greater than 16X with 80-pin cable.

James, I am now having the same problem you had/have? Those same dvd and cd drives all of a sudden are missing from My Computer and are not able to be found by adding new hardware.

I have a Soyo brand computer with Windows XP. I am having problems with the CD drive. In Device Manager it says the name of my CD Rom driver is HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8525B. When I put a CD in my CD/RW drive my screen goes black like it is trying to boot from the disk. The screen stays black until I get the CD out then it re-starts. AVG, my anti-virus software detected a trojan horse virus and it went into the virus vault.I have done system restore, rolled back to earlier version of the driver in device manager (no earlier version to roll back to), went through the troubleshooter in device manager and now I am considering deleting the driver. Any advice? |

Okay. I've got that drive and so far it works fine. You guys missed two things.
1: version 1.03 is the last version they have on the north American site today(LG site). Though I am sure you could find "leaked" or other region's firmware.
2: Your burn speed might be limited if the drive isn't compatible with your media.
My advice. everyone stick to the 1.03 firmware and the 40 pin cable.
Firmware:

under Software, choose your location and then choose cd-rom(writer), then your OS and lastly type gce-8525b.
Also make sure the jumpers are set(Eg:master or slave) and you've pugged it into a different cable from the one with the HD. Double check the bios to check if it is set to auto and what not. worse to worst manually configure it. |
