Hi Dodie,

You can download the files that were on the install CD for your Dell A940 printer from our driver database:

Dell A940 Printer Driver

RE: cd for install DellAIO printerA940

Thanks, Eric, I clicked on the link and got the page, but when I clicked on to download for Windows XP nothing came up. Any more suggestions? By the way if I can do it, do I have to uninstall the old installation first and then download the new. My problem is I have an ERROR 50c on my A940 printer. I did everything it says to do but nothing. I took out both cartridges and took them to Walgreens to verify they work and were full. They passed, came home and installed them and same error.

Hi Dodie,

I just tried clicking on the link myself and the download eventually started. It did take a while though (like 1 minute). I would recommend trying to download it from that page again.

I don't know if reinstalling the driver will solve your Error 50c issue though as I don't know what that error message means (and there is no mention of it in the printer manual for the Dell A940).

RE: cd for install DellAIO printerA940

Hi Eric,
I've been working on this all day. Very frustrating. I've done everything I possibly can.The printer menu says to look in the user guide,I don't have a user guide. But I did download the PDF file on the user guide, but it doesn't state ERROR 50c. On the printer it says: Cartridge Error-Error 50c, consult user guide. Nothing else, I'm ready to throw the printer out the window. Thanks for all your help!

Indeed...the user guide doesn't seem to mention Error 50c. They do, however, mention a "Cartridge Error" on page 52 of the manual. They claim this means that the printer has detected a short circuit in the cartridge. As you may have noticed, this is what they recommend doing about it:

1) Press Power to turn the printer off.
2) Use both hands to lift the printer (scanner unit) until the scanner support holds it open.
3) Turn the printer on.
The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the
printer is busy.
4) Remove the color ink cartridge.
5) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.
If the error message displays again, replace the black cartridge with a new black cartridge.
If the error message does not display, repeat steps 1–3 and then goto step 6.
6) Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black ink cartridge.
7) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.
If the error message displays again, replace the color cartridge with a new
color cartridge.
If there is no error message (indicated by flashing lights), repeat steps 1–3 and then reinstall both ink cartridges.
8) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.
If you get the error message again, while both cartridges are installed, replace both of the cartridges.

So basically, they want you to determine if the short circuit is with the black ink cartridge or the color ink cartridge and then replace the cartridge that has the problem.

But since Walgreen seems to think there is nothing wrong with the cartridges, it could be a problem with the printer itself.

I guess you could try calling Dell technical support. Good luck with that though (my girlfriend must have spent over 20 hours on the phone with Dell over many days trying to get a Dell printer working and the final suggestion from the tech support guy was to reformat her computer...which she opted not to do). So the quality of their tech support may not be great, but it may be worth a try.

screw dell and their Error 50C--It is my "HOPE" that Obama takes them bankrupt, fires the board of directors and sends the CEO to Russia for further training refilling ink cartriges and inserting them until his eye balls flash "Error 50C" Long live "OBAMA"--comrade Dax
