I cannot burn data or music to cd. Error appear after collect all data. The symptoms is that all is ok. I can't read, after all, data or music from that cd.

RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

@Alberto Alfredo

Thanks, your link to the Microsoft registry fix did the trick. I was contemplating a complete reinstall, really glad I found your post. FYI, the problem was caused by ROXIO's SOFTWARE. Just one more reason why dumping that pig of a program in favor of Nero was a smart move.
Scott on March 12, 2005
RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

I have a similar problem, but when it mentions the Roxio software problem I ended up deleting the two drivers. I haven't been able to restore to the last known good boot record nor have I been able to get the cd-rom to work in order to reload XP. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Thanks

RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

I wanted to also applaud this solution. My cd/dvd drive disappeared on my notebook. While I had been using its ability to write disk, I came back, drive gone. The Dealer said, looks like some time in the shop for that computer. They couldn't find the driver correctly. Suspicious, I looked around.

Carefully deleting the upper and lower values for the limits, rebooting, and the CD/DVD drive reappeared; plop in a disk, and the thing played music to my ears.

My only two bits is this. If you attempt this solution, you will find that, surprisingly, there really are lots of devices associated with 4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318. You are only interested in the CD/DVD device. Secondly, I right clicked on the upper/lower 'limits' to eliminate simply the 'value' associated with these keys (highlight the values, delete them, and simply move on). That is, I didn't delete the keys themselves, but their 'values.' There is nothing to 'save.' Just close things up, and reboot. Thanks

RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

Well, could be several things....make sure CD/dvd has power/check connection/try another CD drive, if it doesn't work then you can determine whether its harware or software...let me know

YES!! Thank you!

This worked great, what I did was double click and hit backspace to clear it, then clicked OK for both. All you need to do now is go back into device manager and disable the drive, then enable it and BAM, there it is!

RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

I had a similiar problem as well. No DVD burner was detected. Tried deleting the registry keys and that worked - sort of. Both of my drives show up now (DVD Burner and DVD-Rom) except in My Computer they show up as plain CD Drives. Device manager shows correctly what they are (DVD Burner and DVD Rom).
I am stumped. Any ideas?

RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

If you have an Intel chipset then the problem could be due to the Intel application accelerator program, I installed this and at a later date uninstalled it and my cd drive disappeared,
after trying all the tips mentioned here I eventually re-installed the Intel program and the cd drive reappeared after reboot -

RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

I am worked on this issue almost 20 hours.

read everything deleting "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" is getting drives back but none of my DVD softwares (Nero, 1 Click DVD copy and DVDclone) are working.

I think this key associates those software programs to drives.

Any help and information is appreciated.

Thanks,
VJ

Removing the upper and lowerfilters as outlined above worked like a charm for my missing CD and DVD drives. It was strange how it affected my usb connected external DVD drive too, and a search on google for code 39 brought me to this site (search on the msft help site turned up nothing).

RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

Hey guys I could really use some help. I'm having the same issue, but differently when viewing the registry key as mentioned repeatedly above there is no UpperFilters or LowerFilters listed? I tried creating the registry strings rebooting, no help, then deleting the strings rebooting, still no help. Both cd drives, i'm getting code 39 in device manager and im getting other codes on other hardware also. Microsofts symptoms do not help in relation to the error codes im getting I believe it does have something to do with the registry. I would appreciate any help/advice.

RE: My Samsung CDRW Missing In XP

try this, it worked for me;

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist)
value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

just delete the upper and lower filters and you'll have your drive back. CD Creator bites.
