RE: hp psc 2175 all-in one

I have this Psc 2175 and have a "Remove & check cartridges" message. I have new cartridges & I also looked on HP website. I cleaned the ports as described, and unplugged and re-plugged, still the message persists. I've used this printer to print assignments less than probably 50 times and have replaced the ink, so i dont' know why the printer is acting up. i would think this product would last given that it's been rarely used and was in perfect condition.
Any suggestions anyone?

hp Software needs

For any hp Printer that you need drivers, just go to www.hp.com and search for your model number and the word, "driver". The printer will come up in the list of links. Just follow that link, and there will be a link for "drivers and software". Go there, and get your software, as applicable to your system - that simple. The "full" version of the software is the same thing that comes on your CD. There is no charge, currently, to download from their site.

Lines in Print

If your lines show up whenever scanning in a document and then printing, or copying, then it is likely due to the little floppy plastic thing under the glass (looks like a ribbon) not moving correctly or being in the wrong spot, or a bad or dirty spot on the bottom of the glass.

I have attempted (with hp tech support via online chat) to fix this problem for a friend's hp 2100 multifunction to no avail. I found that it would have to be repaired (not worth it) or replaced, or just try to repair it myself (headache from what I've read).

I also just recently started getting a line in anything that I scan with my hp 6100, apparently from that same ribbon. On mine, I can tell for sure that it is just that the ribbon has made some sort of mark on the bottom of the scanning glass. On the 2100 I mentioned, it was definitely the mislocation (either by bad running of the machine or the ribbon actually being misplaced prior to purchase), because it would always be a solid black line, and it even looked out of place when I took the time to look closely at it. On my scanner part of the printer, I can see the actual mark(s) made on the bottom of the glass, and in any scanned image/document, the line is just superficial (you can still see the image, but there is an obvious line in it).

"Remove & check cartriges" msg

Given the things you have already done, this could just be a sign of a bad printer. There are some more detailed "reboot" type steps you can take, which the hp tech support people will walk you through if you contact them. You can call, email, or do online chat at the hp support website.

Go to http://support.hp.com and You should find what you need.

Printer Hooked up but not recognized on Computer

If you can copy but can't print, b/c your computer doesn't recognize the printer, check these things:

1. Printer Cable (most likely USB nowadays) is properly connected between the printer and the computer - if You move the printer or computer, it is possible to cause the cable to come unplugged. Even if it looks plugged in, make sure it is "snug" as that is the proper connection, otherwise, it may not be recognized correctly.

2. Make sure the right driver is installed for your printer, and your operating system (usually, depends upon what version of Windows you are using - or if Linux or Apple/Mac, then you'll need to get the appropriate driver for that).

3. You can get into more technical things. If you are not comfortable in getting into the more technical things, then contact hp support from their website, as listed in earlier post by me, and they can walk you through fixing your sitaution.

4. One slightly more technical possibility is to uninstall the printer software (if already isntalled), then go to your printers (if Windows XP or similar, go to Start->Control Panel (or "Printers and Faxes" if available, you'll find this option under Control Panel as well). Make sure your hp printer is not showing there. If it is, right-click on it, and choose "delete." This will not harm your computer or printer in any way. Next, select File -> Server Properties in the Printers and Faxes window. Then, on the "Drivers" tab, make sure there is no driver(s) listed for your printer. If there are, then delete any drivers that show up by clicking on each one individually and clicking "Remove"

5. Not quite as technical checks:
Make sure your printer is set as the default printer. To do so, check under Printers and Faxes (from start menu or Control Panel). The one with a check on it is the default. If your printer is not set to default, but is listed, then right-click on it, and select "set as default". If you print a "test page" from within another program, make sure that the printer is set to the one you wan to print to. Occasionally, another program will make it's "print to file" routine the default printer if it doesn't see a physical printer already installed on your system.

6. Another not so technical check. Under "Printers and Faxes", make sure there is ONLY 1 copy of your printer listed. If there are more than one, I suggest deleting the oldest one (so, for instance if you see a hp2175 and a hp2175(1), I'd delete the one without the (1), then just rename the active one after you verify it works.

the screen says right cartridge incorrect..

1. Make sure you have the right cartridge - don't put the black or photo in the color, and don't put the color in the black or photo spot.

2. Make sure the little plastic thing is removed from the cartridge before insertion.

3. Make sure the cartridge is listed as the correct model number for your printer. If you have the box for the cartridge, it should list your printer model on the box. Also, on hp's website, they have listed for each printer, and for each cartridge, what they are compatible with.

4. If all the above are correct, try removing and replacing the cartridge. It is possible that you did not properly install the cartridge.

5. Try contacting hp support if you can't get it to work with the above.

6. Or if you are just at wits end, and have no clue, see if you know a friend who can physically check it out for you, or someone you're willing to pay. It may be a simple fix, but it very well may be there is something wrong with the printer. If there is something wrong with the printer, and it's not a super high-end expensive printer, then it'd be cheaper to just replace the whole printer. If it's still under warranty, I'd DEFINITELY check with hp support, as it will be repaired or replaced by them if need be.

RE: hp psc 2175 all-in one

Recently keep experiencing over and over a "paper jammed" alert when I go to print followed by copy / scan / photo card buttons flashing requesting to push enter after paper jam has been cleared/removed. New sheet advances very fast to stop finger on top of spool and that is when the failure occurs. Remove paper - non existing jam and unit resets and repeats failure with new piece of paper when request to print again. Using HP everyday / copy 20 lb paper, with finite detail, unable to find any paper, scraps or anything within printer. Would like to save the printer

Where do I install my hp psc 2175 printer cartrigdge?
Eric on May 27, 2008
RE: hp psc 2175 all-in one

Hi Karen,

Just lift the front cover/panel of your HP PSC 2175 printer. Then the print carriage (holding the cartridge) will move to the centre of the unit. Once the carriage stops moving, lift the latch to release the print cartridge and then pull it towards you out of the slot.

Then remove all the protective tape from the new cartridge you want to install and slide the new cartridge into the carriage such that it is positioned the same way as was your previous cartridge that you just removed. Push it until it clicks into place. The pull the latches back over the cartridges.

The carriage contains 2 cartridges: a colour cartridge and a black and white cartridge. The colour cartridge goes on the left side of the carriage. The black ink cartridge slides into the right side of the carriage.

For more details and pictures to go with these instructions, read the manual that comes with the HP PSC 2175 All in one printer (pages 39-41)

i'm trying to print wedding invitations, but can't get it to line up correctly in the center, can u help please?
Eric on June 27, 2008
RE: hp psc 2175 all-in one

Hi Chuck2281,

It may be that you need to align your print cartridges. To do this:

1. Press Setup
2. Press 2
3. Press 2 again

This should select "Maintenance" and then "Align Print Cartridges" which will print out a page of patterns to align the cartridges properly.

If this does not resolve the problem, it might just be an issue with the paper size and margin settings in whatever program you are using to design you cards. Just go to the Page Setup portion of your software and ensure that the paper size is set correctly in the software and that the margins are as you expect.

Eric.
