Got it ! The solution, that is.
As I read all the notes, we're all experiencing the same problem. I just resolved it on my machine (XP).
I can write to the card when it is in my camera. When I insert the card into my USB slot on the printer, I can read and download the photos, but I cannot write to it...same problem y'all are having.
Soooo, I tried using my 26-in-1 card reader and plugging that into a USB slot..........VOILA! Don't know why, don't know how, but I can now write to the card. Give it a go !

PEOPLE!! First of all, if the problem can be solved with the LOCK/UNLOCK switch, then we wouldn't have so many people asking for help, AND we wouldn't even be. It's so simple-- it's a no-brainer, even a fifth grader will know WHERE it is and WHAT'S ITS FUNCTION IS. As it is, even if we UNLOCK the damn switch, IT STILL ISN'T WORKING (so I guess you should stop posting it as the ONLY solution coz it IS NOT, and IT DOESN'T WORK FOR EVERYONE AT ALL). Secondly, the post about regedit, there's nothing there about #8. Third, for this link--http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1248#15, YES WE KNOW WHERE THE UNLOCK SWITCH IS, THANK YOU. You can stop gloating about your brilliant brain now coz we aren't stupid and we've tried that and for the Nth time, IT ISN'T WORKING FOR US. Now if someone who isn't nuts and isn't out to annoy people could read these posts, please, for the love of God (if you don't have a God, then for the love of your peace of mind) PLEASE HELP US. Seriously!

well even if i used a card reader and the adapter thing, it still won't work. i guess the only solution now is to throw your memory card, sigh as heavy as you want, regret the loss of your files for a few days, then move on.

hey guys, I think I know the reason why our SD memory cards had "Write-protection" problem. You will need a new and most updated reader to read it. I just find out from my friend and it solves the problem. I can use my card without any problem at all. You will need to invest some money to buy a new reader to update your more memory card in future too. Good luck.

Memory Card Write Protection

Firstly, I have the samsung SCH-u740 (double flip) and i've had it for 2 years, in these 2 years I have yet to find a way to transfer music from my computer to my music player. I am using a samsung micro SD adapter, the origional that came with my phone. As well as the Sandisk 128MB micro SD card, that also came with the phone. Everytime I put the mirco SD in the adapter and put it in my computer, I can take pictures off of it, but I can not add music or pictures to it. And each time I try and move music onto the card, I get the write protected message.

And NO it is NOT LOCKED, i'm not stupid, I can read, thank you for telling my to check that numerous times, each time it didn't help.

Okay, so NONE of the other tips are working, I don't know if it has something to do with the adapter or the micro SD card.

If anyone knows why this may not be working for some reason that I may have missed, please, PLEASE, let me know.

Memory Card Write Protection

Okay, so here's the deal, for all those of you tearing your hair out.

Yes, many of us SERIOUSLY tried moving the tab to unlock. And we've tried the "slide it to the middle" thing. And we've tried the tape thing. And we've tried switching to another card reader/adapter and taping THAT one. And it STILL... DOESN'T... WORK.

Here's why.

Many Cell Phones, MP3's, etc, will "format" your card for you. What they DON'T tell you is they format it write-protected. Some Phones use a password for this. Some phones DO NOT. I personally have a samsung-i-don't-remember-the-model. I don't believe it HAS pw protection on it, but it's elsewhere now and I haven't had time to go messing with it. (No, don't ask why my phone is elsewhere).

Basically, you can't remove write protection without REMOVING write protection. Normally, you would do that on the device you stuck it in originally. HAHA, most phones won't let you do that. Nice way to sell more SDmicro cards, no?

I HAVE MANAGED, TWICE, to trick my computer into reformatting the card. Sometimes it stays that way. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I brick the card. I've done it by sticking my card in and QUICKLY hitting format. It once actually let me upload about 40 pics before it told me again it was write-protected.

To MOST OF YOU:

Seriously - Scan your phone. Look for some sort of a password option on the storage. REALLY LOOK. check the hidden firmware. Unlock your phone. Get the hidden key from the manual or a buddy who works at Sprint-TMobile-Verizon-Whoever PUT you in this situation in the first place.

To the REST of you:

I've tried myself creating the storageDevicePolicies in my registry and setting it to 0 because I didn't have it either. (It does seem like a sound plan). I use Windows XP 64. Basically, you open notepad, paste the code, and rename the file as a .bat then run it. You should find it in your registry and be able to set to 0 (I only set for currentcontrolset but on reboot it changed for all 3 folders). It didn't work for me, even though I thought it had.

So next I'm gonna try cracking open my phone and see what the dilly. Hope I can find that setting. Happy hunting, and good luck, seriously.

Memory Card Write Protection

SOLUTION HERE (read to the end)!

I've read all the posts and understand your frustrations. I've had the same problem with my "SanDisk" SD card. But I finally found a solution. My problem was only when using my laptop card reader: I can COPY pictures/files from the card to another folder/location on my laptop, I just cannot CUT or DELETE pictures/files or FORMAT the card. Just like some of you posted, I CAN delete pictures when the card is in the camera, so obviously it’s not the write-protection slider on the card. Furthermore, if I put the card in my DESKTOP computer's card reader, I CAN copy, cut, delete, format (with the SAME sd card that WON’T do these functions in my LAPTOP). So I figured the card reader in my laptop might be the problem. I DID find a solution (read on... it's at the end). So to determine if it’s the card or the card READER, it might help to try what I did: Put the card in a DIFFERENT computer’s card reader (ie Use a computer at the library or use a friend’s computer). If you can format, delete, etc on the other computer, it’s NOT the card that’s the problem.

So... DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR SD CARD! You really probably have NOT lost your files/pictures forever (haven't lost them at all!) You DO NOT need a new card!

I know a few of you mentioned that you tried the "tape" trick without any luck; I didn’t see where any of you mentioned specifically what you tried. When you read my solution below, you’ll see a tape trick mentioned (as well as other solutions), If the tape trick specified in my instructions doesn’t work, try layering a second strip of tape on top of the first piece to make it thicker. (The pictures on the web page I’ve linked below will show you pictures of WHY the tape trick works… it needs to be thick enough to make 2 pieces of metal make contact (you’ll see what I’m talking about when you go to the web page below). Oh, and I KNOW you're not idiots, but I should mention to make sure your tape does not cover the metal contacts on the back of your card! :-)

So read this web page and if their instructions for the tape trick don’t solve your problem, there are OTHER tips and suggestions on the same page: http://www.getflashmemory.info/hack-why-is-my-sd-card-write-protected/

The web page linked above shows GREAT diagrams to help those of us who are visual learners. And, as the author of the web page mentions, IF you do have to replace the card reader, they are cheap (literally). But I do know that getting a new SD card is NOT cheap. (If it's at least 1 GB, you're looking at $40 at Walmart and even more at other stores... and that's the CHEAP brands!) And if you think you're not capable of replacing an SD card reader, don't sell yourself short just yet. I know NOTHING about the internal mechanisms of computers and when my hard drive recently bit the dust, I was actually able to change out my hard drive myself. You can search Google or Yahoo for specific instructions for your computer brand & model to help you change out the SD card reader. I know it sounds intimidating if you haven't done it before, but in reality, it's not as hard as you think.

Anyways, I know… I'm rambling. Just check out the web site linked above and give their suggestions a try. The visual pictures they provide really help you understand the problem.

Good luck! Post a reply to let us know how it works for you.

I can copy data from my memory card to desktop but unable to write/copy data from desktop to memory card.
checked properties of memory and found read only to memory card, so unchecked "read only" option and tried copying data to memory card and it showed same error as "Access denied- Write protection".

When i checked the properties of memory and found read only to memory card is checked automatically.

Is there any other way that i can change this settings and system doesn't auotmatically set the "read only" property to memory card?

just tape the lock switch to unlocked. This also works for SD cards in
normal size. back up all the files u have on ur card then follow these
steps

1. Go to Control Panel
2. Go to Administrative tools
3. Go to Computer management
4. From the tree menu on the left select Disk Management
5. Now on the right side you will have a list of all storage devices
connected to your computer. Select the one that is your mini SD card.
BE CAREFUL WHEN CHOOSING THIS BECAUSE YOU COULD FORMAT YOUR HARDDRIVE.
Double check the name in My Computer
6. Right click on the SD card and select format. A new window will pop
up showing format options. Select FAT32 from the file system drop down
and check the quick format option and then click on OK
7. Enjoy your mini SD card without that annoying write protection

Had same problem nothing worked tape, regedit, Active@ Kill Disk, low level format etc etc

what worked on my (Microsd with SD adapter)
was formatting on my Blackberry I duplicated the problem and found out it had to do with some DRM protection. If you have a
camera
GPS
blackberry
mobile phone
that supports your card type format in that hardware and hopefully you will have the same luck as i did

I've encountered similar problem on my SanDisk 2GB. A pop-up error
message appear. Looking at "Event Viewer" under "System" below is the
entry found related to the problem.

-------------------------------------
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 28/12/2010
Time: 12:21:54 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ITIM
Description:
Application popup: cmd.exe - Write Protect Error : The disk cannot be
written to because it is write protected. Please remove the write
protection from the volume in drive F:.
-------------------------------------

Here's the solution that worked out for me.

SOLUTION:
Switched the slider to (lock-unlock) position, many times.
Then returned the slider back to unlock position.
Re-insert card on my card reader and retry writing operation on my SD
card and it worked perfectly.

Memory Card Write Protection

Okay I dunno if anyone is still having this problem, but my card is a
4gb one that I use for my little camcorder, it was locking up and not
letting me delete or write memory on it, but it would let me copy info
off. just thought I would start out with that because every case can
be different and we use these for different things.

**yes I moved the little lock-unlock tab!

::How I Fixed it::
Go to--
>Start
>My Computer or Computer
>right click on the drive that pops up when the card is plugged in to
your computer

>click Properties >> click on the Hardware tab
> On mine there was a thing that said something like "DVD/CDrom" or
something (sorry I dont remember...)
> Click that, then click the
>"Driver" tab, then click the
>"Uninstall" button

I don't know if this is proper way to do it or what but I did that and
plugged it back into my camcorder and Viola! the "locked" picture was
off!

Put the switch halfway between lock and unlock on the adapter. It might seem like a no brainer but I was trying fully on lock and unlock.

Stupid little thing my god.. it must have gotten broken or moved or something because it wasn't working. I cant believe that little thing causes so much problems and you cant just override it software-wise somehow.

Oh well, try halfway guys.
